The Six-Ton Elephant

Stephanie and Nathan are in the waiting area munching on each other. Patients sit around munching popcorn and enjoying the show. Maxine walks up to Melanie, "Good you're here. Or are you? Is something bothering you?" Melanie says no and Maxine asks her to go in and see Rhea, the homeless woman in 106.

Rhea looks at Stephanie's birth control pills, but shoves them into her bag as Melanie comes in. Melanie asks what her problem is. Rhea says she's been having trouble with her sore foot. "Do you have insurance," asks Melanie.

"Of course not," says Rhea, "I'm homeless."

"In that case, we'll require a $250 deposit," says Melanie.

"I don't have $250," says Rhea.

Melanie asks, "Do you have a firstborn child?"

We pan to the pills in Rhea's bag.

Victor is visiting Brady. Brady assures him he's doing well. Victor says he's more worried about his psyche than his body, "Whoever did this will pay."

"That's OK," says Brady, "The hospital bill will be huge but I can afford it. Do you know if you don't have insurance here, they demand your firstborn child?"

Sami and EJ sit on the couch and Sami tells EJ he kissed her after the mugging. "You're not joking," asks EJ, "I kissed you? How did you react?"

Sami dodges that one, "You really don't remember?"

"I'm trying."

"Yes you are, very trying," says Sami, "It wasn't that big a deal."

"I think it was," says EJ.

Calliope tries to convince Anna to talk about things. Rafe watches as Anna decides to tell her everything. She starts in and says it all began with Sydney living at the DiMera mansion. Calliope assumes Stefano was married to Sydney. Anna tells her Sydney is Stefano's granddaughter, "But that is where all the trouble began. I don't know where to start."

"Start at the beginning."

"Back in Salem there was a doctor named Tom Horton. He had a wife named Alice..."

"Maybe we'd better not go back quite that far," says Calliope, "Tell me about Sydney and leave nothing out."

Rafe looks into his computer and mumbles, "We got her right where we want her. She's gonna spill."

EJ tries to process the news. He says he's a little embarrassed. Sami tells him it's OK. EJ thinks this explains her awkwardness with him lately. Sami says they are friends and should talk about it. "Maybe we should," says Sami, "Do you know why you did it?"

"Absolutely."

Rhea says, "I want to see my cat Cinnamon. She came in with me and I wondered if you'd check on her." Melanie starts to leave. As she gets up, She sees Rhea's things and asks to look through them, "Here at Salem Hospital, we take your privacy as well as your money." Melanie dives in and finds the Stephanie's birth control pills.

"I've been having headaches," says Rhea, "So I try to find pills wherever I can."

"I don't' think these will help with your headaches," says Melanie, "But if some gals don't take them, they can bring BIG headaches."

Maggie arrives at the hospital and Nathan and Stephanie greet her. Maggie says she's there for a routine checkup. Nathan says, "I Hope you have insurance."

"Yes," says Maggie, "But I'd prefer to give you Sarah. She's not doing me much good these days."

Brady says he doesn't need Victor fighting his battles for him. Victor wants to get all the victims together and team up as a reckless group of vigilantes terrorizing Salem.

Brady reminds him EJ is in that group, "But at least a reckless group of vigilantes would be more effective than the Salem police force."

Sami asks EJ, "So, you know why you kissed me?"

"You're beautiful," says EJ, "We have a history and two children together. I just must've thought I was in a different time and place. It's been a long time since we had any feelings. And obviously we don't' have any now."

"No."

"I don't want this to be awkward," says EJ, "I'm sorry if I caused any distress."

"I'm glad we got that cleared up," says Sami.

"Me, too." Clear as mud.

Melanie tells Rhea the birth control pills aren't good for her. Rhea says she found them in the trash. Nathan and Stephanie come in. Stephanie says she is there to set up the social service consultation. Nathan sticks Rhea in a wheelchair and takes her out into the hall. Outside, Nathan asks, "Do you have insurance?"

"No," says Rhea. He wheels her into the alley.

Meanwhile, back inside, Melanie tells Stephanie they have to talk.

Sami gets up and nervously clears her throat. EJ asks, "Do you feel better now that we have trussed the six ton elephant in the room?"

Sami says she does and she also says she's grateful for EJ because of his understanding, "We've become, dare I say it, friends." EJ says she may dare say that.

Rafe watches. Calliope tires to get things straight, "So EJ knocked up Sami for the second time. She didn't want him to know and hid out with an FBI hunk and EJ married Nicole and faked a pregnancy and switched a teenager's kid with Sami's kid... I'm going to need a much stiffer drink."

Anna continues, "So I get this phone call from Stefano and he tells me Tony is gone. Just like that. He was the love of my life. Stefano didn't kill him but I knew he was responsible. I went back to that mansion and kept my chin up. Then I realized I could get Tony's inheritance and make Stefano suffer. So I kidnapped the baby."

Rafe almost shows an emotion, "YES!"

Anna says, "Ask me if I regret it... not one bit."

Rafe sneers, "Yeah, but you're about to."

Melanie confronts Stephanie the birth control pills. Stephanie claims they must've fallen out of her purse. Melanie doesn't buy it.

Maggie comes into Brady's room as he and Victor talk.

Anna slurs as she begins to feel the effects of her frothy pink drink, "I have a consciously clear complete. It's so great to see you. You're not judging me are you? Don't make me regret telling you."

Calliope hugs her and says she would never judge her. She says she has a hair appointment and has to go. She leaves and Anna flops back into her chair.

Sami and EJ agree to put the kids first. He decides he has to go swimming as therapy for his shoulder, "I have to do 100 laps."

Sami gasps, "I couldn't do one lap." He invites her to try. "It's May," says Sami, "It would be too cold."

"The DiMera pool is 80°," says EJ.

"You heat your pool," asks Sami, "That's why Greenland is melting."

"You mean Iceland, don't you," asks EJ.

"No," says Sami, "Everyone knows Iceland is green and Greenland is icy."

"I don't think I want to go swimming," says Sami, "I'm uncomfortable with people seeing me in my bathing suit."

"Who needs bathing suits," asks EJ.

Stephanie is indignant, "How dare you accuse me of lying?"

Melanie continues to accuse. She says she knows what Stephanie is up to, "You're trying to trap Nathan into fatherhood." Stephanie denies and tells her this is none of her business. Melanie says, "He deserves to know the truth." Nathan walks in.

Calliope tells Rafe what happened with Anna, but Rafe says he already knows that stuff. Now he wants her to get Anna to tell her who she was working with. Calliope doesn't want any more of this. Rafe tries to convince her what she is doing is patriotic. He gives her his best 'respect for the law' lecture and says he thinks Anna was a pawn in someone else's game.

Johnny runs into the rumpus room as EJ tries to talk Sami into going swimming. Johnny wants to go and asks Mommy to go too. Totally backed into a corner, Sami agrees.

Nathan wants to know what's going on, but gets a call and has to leave. Stephanie tells Melanie she's being ridiculous. Melanie walks out on her.

Maggie asks Brady how he is feeling. Brady says better. Victor tells Maggie it's nice of her to drop in. Melanie joins the crowd in Brady's room, better known as Grand Central Station. Victor and Maggie leave.

Outside, Maggie consoles Victor about having to deal with Brady and Justin's muggings. She asks if he'd mind driving her home, "There is something I'd like to discuss with you."

Melanie takes Brady's pulse and tells him he'll live. She hugs him and tells him she shouldn't joke like that. He assures her he's OK. Brady senses something is wrong. Melanie asks, "Do you maybe have a minute for a friend."

"Sure," says Brady, "When you leave, send my friend in."

Calliope goes back with Anna and says she's decided her roots can wait. Instead she wants to spend time with her buddy. She asks Anna to tell her the rest of the story about the kidnapping. Anna says she was relieved to get things off her chest. "So keep it coming," says Calliope. Pick up right where we left off."

Johnny runs into the rumpus room followed by Sami and EJ. All three are in their bathing suits and dripping wet. Sami sends Johnny away to have Mary change him. Sami says she is cold and EJ helps her put a robe on.

Melanie tells Brady about Rhea finding Stephanie's birth control pills. She wonders if she should tell Nathan. Brady says no, "It's not a good idea to get involved in other couple's problems. I found that out the hard way."

"You're talking about EJ and Nicole," says Melanie.

"No," says Brady, "I'm talking about Brad and Angelina." Melanie stammers around, thanks him for his advice and leaves.

Victor escorts Maggie into her kitchen. "Phillip took me to the hospital," says Maggie, "But I told him I wanted to come back with you so we could talk."

"Great," says Victor, "So why couldn't we talk in the car on the way home instead of having to wait until now?"

"I couldn't hear anything over your boom car stereo," says Maggie.
She has him sit down, "To get to the point, you and Phillip, with your engagement to Vivian... I'm reluctant to get involved, but seeing you with Brady today made it clear to me how you feel about family. Anyway, if I can help mend the fences with you and Phillip I'd be happy to try."

"That means a lot," says Victor.

Anna tells Calliope she thinks EJ still has feelings for Sami. Calliope wonders how she knows that.

EJ and Sami share an uncomfortable moment as EJ slowly puts on his robe. He decides he needs a massage and Sami offers. The robe comes back off. Ratings are low and every little bit of eye candy helps. Sami goes to work. "Ouch," squeals EJ, "You don't have to continue showing me how little you care for me." Things get quiet.

EJ breaks the silence, "I know you have feelings for another man."

"Yeah," says Sami, "but it's never going to happen."

Ejamis in the audience cheer. The Safes bide their time knowing their turn to cheer will come. The last remaining Lumi in the audience drowns her sorrow gorging herself with the 1,100 calorie super-sized bucket of popcorn.

Stephanie comes in to see Brady. She tells Brady she's doing great, but somehow senses Melanie told him something, "I have no idea why she would be concerned about me nor do I care." Translation: I Hope she keeps her mouth shut about those pills. She leaves. Man, that visit was a hit-and-run.

Outside, Stephanie seethes, "Damn you, Melanie."

Melanie finds Nathan taking a break. It would have been a real shock if she found someone at the hospital working. Nathan says, "You were going to tell me something."

"It's about Stephanie."

Maggie serves Victor coffee and he notices she's shaking. He starts to ask what's wrong, but Maggie collapses in his arms.

Anna continues, "It's no secret EJ never got over Sami."

Calliope works the conversation back to the Syd-napping, "I find it hard to believe you kidnapped a child. Who made you do it?"

"What is with all these questions," says Anna, "If I didn't know better I'd say you were grilling me."

Sami massages. EJ oooos, aahhs and ouches, "Hey... that one hurt!" Sami eases up. She tells him she once considered massage school but something happened and they asked her to leave.

"It's their loss," says EJ.

Sami works his shoulder. EJ turns, "You're a very gifted person. All you have to do is believe that." Closer... closer... closer...

Meanwhile, down in the emergency room of the hospital, an attendant asks Cinnamon, "Do you have insurance?"

"We got her right where we want her. She's gonna spill."

Sure she is – as if!!! In a recent interview, Dena Higley shared that she likes loooooooooooong story arcs. She must also like putting viewers to sleep but I digress. Anyway, I’m betting on Anna being smarter than a below average FBI agent, and that taxpayers’ dollars have been wasted paying for Rafe’s airline ticket.

Rhea says, "I want to see my cat Cinnamon. She came in with me and I wondered if you'd check on her."

…so that’s the problem. Salem University Hospital is actually a veterinary hospital.

"But if some gals don't take them, they can bring BIG headaches."

Like Sami and Nicole? Talk about headaches – for the viewers. Grrrrrrrrr!!

Nathan sticks Rhea in a wheelchair and takes her out into the hall.

Hospitals have people to transport patients. Even an intern wouldn’t be doing wheelchair duty.

"We've become, dare I say it, friends."

Friends – that’s a word that is tossed around rather indiscriminately on this soap. When “friends” are sticking their tongues down each other throats, the benefits part generally follows.

"I don't think I want to go swimming," says Sami, "I'm uncomfortable with people seeing me in my bathing suit."

Whoda thunk it?! When Sami waded through the water to evacuate Marlena’s townhouse, she even managed to pack her bathing suit. I don’t think that's an item of clothing that would be near the top of my emergency packing list. Then again, I only have a 40 gallon water heater in the house. Marlena’s must have been big enough to cause a tidal wave.

Stephanie takes birth control pills? What a novel concept for DOOL. I thought that Salem was a birth control free zone. The whole Melanie/Stephanie/Nathan “the pill” storyline is nothing but contrived lunacy. My dream scenario is that Gus and Stephanie get together, find true love, and head off to France – never to be seen again.

Sounds like Prevuze may have had a hospital stay or two. A health insurance identification card – never leave home without it. Thanks for the stellar recap Prevuze! It appears to be a must see episode. LOL!!!!

She sees Rhea's things...dives in and finds the Stephanie's birth control pills.

Oh, for pete’s sake! At least that tried-and-true soap ploy of knocking over the bag and stuff spilling out would have been plausible. Hackneyed, but plausible. But Melanie randomly asking the paw through a patient’s things???

“…at least a reckless group of vigilantes would be more effective than the Salem police force."

Heavens, a troop of Brownie Scouts would be more effective.

Rafe sneers, "Yeah, but you're about to."

If Anna is on an island without an extradition treaty what’s the big macho law-abiding FBI man going to do? Kidnap her?

And how about Maggie swooning into Victor's arms? As Prevuze Previews asked this morning....do we have any Viggie supporters out there yet?

Great prevuisms today. I LOLOL at: Ejamis in the audience cheer. The Safes bide their time knowing their turn to cheer will come. The last remaining Lumi in the audience drowns her sorrow gorging herself with the 1,100 calorie super-sized bucket of popcorn.

And

Meanwhile, down in the emergency room of the hospital, an attendant asks Cinnamon, "Do you have insurance?
"

If I didn’t know better, I’d think that Prevuze was a tad bit jaded about the state of health insurance in the country today.

Got a good laugh over the pictures today, especially the one with Ciara.

"Tell me about Sydney and leave nothing out."
Well, I would've been alerted. But I have some sense, I like to think.

"It's not a good idea to get involved in other couple's problems. I found that out the hard way."
Of course she should, but that would drastically shorten this nonsense. Stephanie is trying to trick someone into parenthood so she can 'keep' him, it's not like Melanie saw her cheating at bingo. And Brady wasn't 'involved,' he was more like a spectator in Nicole's Wacky World.

"I have no idea why she would be concerned about me nor do I care."
Which is why I brought it up in the first place.

He starts to ask what's wrong, but Maggie collapses in his arms.
Always making the ladies swoon. Go Victor!

~I would think Stefano sent Anna to a country which doesn't have an extradition treaty with the United States. I wouldn't put it past Rafe to take the law into his own hands and 'bring' her back to the US.
Edit: lol Applecheeks. Great minds. :D

My dream scenario is that Gus and Stephanie get together, find true love, and head off to France – never to be seen again.

That is so brilliant and I support this idea 100%, If they took Chloe 110%.

Leslie - you had the same question I did, about Sami's swimsuit. It's so at the top of my list I haven't even owned one for years. HA

And I chuckled all day at the picture of Ciara. You should've gotten on that Greyhound when you had the chance, kid. Or gone with Allie to China to be with Loserclueless. Even he'd be better than Hopeless.

Excellent Prevuze today. Thanks! :D

Does anyone else get shades of "Orphan" whenever Ciara speaks?

She needs to make a horror movie STAT.

Enjoying Ejami while I can knowing the writers will insist on boring out the show again.

My verification word: unchit. That's too easy.
