The Gift

Max, Nick and Robbins go at it over the grant, the formula and the fact that Max served Robbins cold chowdah.

"This is crazy," says Max.

"No," says Nick, "What's crazy is I let this go on so long."

Robbins asks, "Are you telling me your bartender friend developed your hypothesis?"

"Not exactly," says Nick, "It all started the day he mixed some drinks for a couple of customers – Maximilian Whammers. He inadvertently added a few drops of OMB's white lightning and when they drank them the customers melted down and, presto... Max had discovered cold fusion."

"What happened to the customers," asks Robbins.

"Fortunately," says Nick, "He had a couple of spare water heaters in the basement and he got them out before anyone found them."

Max insists he just cleaned Nick's work up. Nick says he's giving the grant money back. He's sick of Max manipulating him.

Chloe and Phillip go at it hot and heavy. Morgan busts in on the marathon. Phillip consults the Guy Manual for advice, "You're on your own, buddy."

Morgan gasps at the sight of two leaches sucking away at each other, "I have to go!"

John gives Ava the big tour of the mansion. He says he thinks he's a lot like her father. "You're nothing like him," says Ava, "Except for the fact that you're both currently brain dead. He was very generous to me when I was growing up, but Daddy's generosity came at a price. He used his money to control me." John says now she is free to live any kind of life she wants. He offers a tour of his bedroom. She'd rather see the kitchen. John warns her, "That counter is awfully cold and hard."

Lucas tells Sami he heard sirens earlier. She asks where he was when he heard them and he claims he was upstairs. Sami asks if there is something he wants to talk about, like what he did tonight. Lucas makes excuses. "I love you," says Sami

Mr. Passion says, "OK."

Sami approaches the groveling stage, "I love you no matter what you do. I just want you to trust me. I just want you to tell me the truth."

"Don't ask me to trust you," says Lucas, "I can't. You slept with EJ." Sami wants a chance to earn his trust. She suggests maybe he can try by telling her a secret, "What if I found out something you didn't want someone to know? I would keep your secret."

Lucas may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but in this case he is very perceptive, "You'd keep it until you got angry." Miss Trust-Me blows her stack. She says she knows he left the house.

John steps in as the nursery school gets out of hand, "QUIT BICKERING!"

Chloe tells Morgan the feud between Phillip and John could get ugly. Phillip tells her to stop being jealous. Chloe insists she isn't jealous, "I was trying to do something nice."

"I know," says Phillip, "But Morgan broke that up." Morgan says she trusts Phillip.

Phillip claims he didn't plant the drugs on John's ship. His phone rings. Phillip answers. Paul says, "Well, slick... I did what you wanted me to do. John Black is not gonna know what hit him."

Phillip snorts, "Call me slick again and you won't know what hit you."

Max says this is why he didn't tell Nick, "I knew he would give up years of work." Max claims he didn't make any major changes. Robbins takes Nick aside and tries to mitigate things. Nick and Max get back into it. Robbins encourages Nick to move forward. He asks him to review the calculations. He says he doesn't think Max is capable of making any significant changes.

Stephanie jumps in, "Max isn't stupid – far from it."

Robbins disagrees, "He's not all that far from it from what I see."

Max says, "You based your book on a phony hypothesis." Robbins thinks Max is jealous of Nick, "And if you harass me again and I will call the police."

Max gets defensive, "What – you think they're better at harassing people than I am?"

Kayla comes in. Stephanie goes off with her as Twinky comes up and asks Dean Robbins for an autograph.

Nick suggests he and Max go talk in private. Max protests, but goes.

Stephanie tells Kayla she doesn't know what's going on with Max, "I just found out he has an amazing gift. He can run off at the mouth almost as much as Lucas."

Paul tells Phillip the problem with the shipment has been taken care of, but he can't be more specific. He hangs up. Morgan decides she has to go. She knows Phillip will do what's right.

John wants to know what's going on. Sami claims it was nothing. Truer words were never spoken. John rants, "Ever since you moved into the mansion the noise has been non stop. I want some peace and quiet."

"I didn't know we were an imposition," says Sami.

"You are all an imposition," snorts John.

Sami decides to go for the old standard defense of changing the subject and putting John on the defensive, "You have no business being here with Ava. Do you understand how wrong that is?" She turns to Ava, "What about you? Aren't there enough single men in Salem?"

John wants Sami to leave. She picks up her copy of "How To Win Friends And Influence People" and heads for the door, "I can't wait for your wife to get home." Lucas follows like a lost puppy.

John apologizes to Ava as the doorbell rings. Rolf announces Hope Brady. Hope wonders what Ava is doing there. John wonders what Hope is doing there. Hope says, "I have some bad news."

Stephanie asks, "Where is Joey – you remember, the one who you just couldn't leave his side."

"He's still on the ventilator," says Kayla, "But, hey, that's his problem."

Stephanie asks, "Is Dad at the hospital?"

"Yeah," says Kayla, "There's no reason for both of us to have to watch the little nuisance at the same time. Once the crisis is over, we'll be sure to have plenty of babysitters lined up."

Nick and Max are at the docks. They can see a fire over at the warehouse where they store impounded cargo. They go over the same well-trodden ground. Max tells Nick he has hidden his great gift because he didn't want to be different and didn't want to be a geek, "I don't want to go to college and hang out with some yuppie self-absorbed person like dean Robbins. I want to be a self-absorbed bartender." Nick wants him to take an IQ test.

Bo shows up at the Kiriakis mansion. He tells Phillip about the fire down by the docks, "I suspect arson."

"Arson Wells," asks Phillip, "I thought he was dead."

Hope tells John the warehouse containing his goods burned down. John snorts, "PHILLIP!" Lucas watches.

John wanders and does the hand Macarena. He squints, oh yes he does, and remembers telling Phillip his dealer will turn on him. He smirks and says the shipment was worth millions. He thinks it may not be covered by insurance since it was impounded. Ava suggests John go check things for himself. Hope tells him to stay out of it. John thinks Phillip has the police snowed, "I'll take care of Phillip one way or another." Ava supports John. Hope tells her to stay out of it. They argue. Hope tells her not to make things worse for herself. On her way out, Hope tells John not to interfere.

Lucas snoops.

Phillip knows John will accuse him. Morgan decides she needs to talk to her father. She tries calling him, but can't reach him, so she hustles out. Phillip denies any knowledge of the fire. Bo hopes that is right, but he says he does have a job to do, "I'm gong to run this investigation by the book." As he leaves, he pulls a comic book out of his pocket and gets to work.

Chloe asks Phillip, "Did you do it?"

Max refuses to take the IQ tests. He also doesn't want to go to college. He thinks his gifts are a curse. He bolts. Nick follows.

Kayla says she had no idea Max was gifted. Max and Nick come back into the pub.

Phillip denies any involvement with the fire. Chloe insists she trusts Phillip, but he didn't seem surprised when he heard about it. "Nothing surprises me any more," says Phillip. He worries that John being a victim may have gained him sympathy with the police.

Chloe comes out of left field, "Well, me moving out makes it easier for you and Morgan."

"I didn't see that one coming," says Phillip, "Come here. You are the only one I want to be with at the moment. And don't worry about the business at the warehouse." Smooch.

John decides to take care of this problem himself. Ava asks if he wants her advice. "Not now," says John, "But I may ask for it before this is over." He won't let Phillip ruin his new life.

Ava says she is impressed by what he's accomplished, "Taking care of business is very sexy."

"Is it?"

"Oh yes." Ava moves in.

Sami finds Lucas pacing. She asks what's wrong. Lucas says he didn't realize he was pacing and doesn't think anything is wrong. Sami insists he can trust her. Lucas says he doesn't have any secrets he can divulge right now.

Nick sits with Stephanie and tells her things didn't go well when he talked to Max.

Max throws darts and remembers his conversation with Robbins at the Java Café. Kayla comes up and meddles. Max don' wanna talk about it. He stomps off.

Chloe and Phillip maul each other. Chloe brings it to a halt and decides to go home and unpack. He asks if she wants to get together leather. "Sure," says Chloe, "Call me." Oh, he will. She leaves. Phillip stares and hopes there is enough cold water in the shower.

Sami goes through the trust thing again. Lucas has nothing to tell her. Sami is shocked. It's the first time Lucas has ever wanted to keep his mouth shut. She goes to check on a crying baby. Lucas remembers bumping into Paul.

Bo and Hope meet at the pub. Hope asks, "Do you think Phillip is lying?"

Bo asks, "Is he a Kiriakis?"

Hope says, "In Salem, you never know." She thinks they have to keep an eye on John. She tells him Ava was at the DiMera mansion. Kayla joins them. Hope asks, "How's L'il Joe?"

"Who cares," asks Kayla, "I'm obsessing over Stephanie now."

Stephanie and Nick watch as Max moves closer to Robbins. "This isn't going to go well," says Stephanie.

Max bends over and whispers in Robbins' ear, "You're gonna let Nick finish his prototype or I'm gonna tell everyone who you really are."

Phillip is on the phone with Paul. He tells him he never asked him to burn down the warehouse.

Meanwhile, Chloe wanders at the dock, "The only way Lucas could have known I was crying was if he was on the pier watching me."

Lucas remembers getting the monitor device. He paces and stares.

John and Ava smooch. Ava decides, "I should go."

"Or stay," says John.

"Not a good idea," says Ava, "You seem distracted." John decides he does need to address the situation with Phillip. Ava asks, "Why didn't you fight him from the beginning?"

Marlena walks in, "Because I didn't want him to." John consults the Guy Manual for advice, "You're on your own, buddy."

He offers a tour of his bedroom. She'd rather see the kitchen. John warns her, "That counter is awfully cold and hard."

Stop, stop!!!! It’s too early in the morning for this kind of stuff!!! I’ve got tears all over my desk from laughing so hard!!! Prevuze, you are too, too much!!!

Miss Trust-Me blows her stack. She says she knows he left the house.

John steps in as the nursery school gets out of hand, "QUIT BICKERING!"

Finally, the voice of reason. Geez, enough already. News flash Sami…Lucas is a guy who can’t let go of his anger so he’s big into holding grudges. He yells at you and berates you constantly. Do you want to live the rest of your life with someone like that? If so, it’s time to be fitted for chainmail because, honey, you’re going to need it to fend off his verbal attacks. I hate it when women grovel at the feet of men who are trying to control them. Sami the victim…yuck.

Chloe insists she isn't jealous, "I was trying to do something nice."

"I know," says Phillip, "But Morgan broke that up."

Typical male response…was that in the Guy Manual, too?

John rants, "Ever since you moved into the mansion the noise has been non stop. I want some peace and quiet."

Holy smokes, I’m liking Jawn better all the time.

"I'm gong to run this investigation by the book." As he leaves, he pulls a comic book out of his pocket and gets to work.

…and that would be an Archie comic book.

Thanks again Prevuze for the early morning laugh fest!!!

Guys don't need a manual to come up with that one.

Shouldn't that page of The Guy Manual have read "Two's company, three's even better"?

John apologizes to Ava as the doorbell rings. Rolf announces Hope Brady. Hope wonders what Ava is doing there. John wonders what Hope is doing there.

Hope hands John The Guy Manual with the chapter "Two Plus One Isn't A Math Problem"

Stephanie tells Kayla she doesn't know what's going on with Max, "I just found out he has an amazing gift. He can run off at the mouth almost as much as Lucas."

Wish Kayla had some sort of pill she could prescribe for that condition.

Bo shows up at the Kiriakis mansion. He tells Phillip about the fire down by the docks, "I suspect arson."

Wow! What a leap! Great powers of detection there, Bo.

"Arson Wells," asks Phillip, "I thought he was dead."

LOLOL

John wanders and does the hand Macarena. He squints, oh yes he does,

OHBOYOHBOYOHBOY! Can't wait to see it.

Max bends over and whispers in Robbins' ear, "You're gonna let Nick finish his prototype or I'm gonna tell everyone who you really are."

Wasn’t Robbins already trying to get Nick to go on with his work???

My HUH? moment for today:
Max…thinks his gifts are a curse.

That’s such a mind-bogglingly stupid statement I can’t even form a reply.

Once more a stellar report. Bulldog's picture (Pard going green with recycled toupees) was a stitch.

Pink Floyd finding Belch on the "dark side of the moon" was ominous though. First they were on Mars, now the moon. Sounds like they are coming back this way. Where are our white flags?? LOLOL

I am disappointed that the Guy Manual seeminingly failed a couple of our heroes at critical times. Thank goodness some sharp readers were able to provide the missing chapters.

Prevuze shows us a picture of Kate from the back. We fashionistas must know if she's in her hospital gown still dripping with multiple strands of gypsy beads and six inch long earrings?

And enquiring minds also want to know if the typo:(Phillip)"asks if she wants to get together leather." is some kind of Freudian slip? HAHAHAHA

I'm with Applecheeks - I can't wait to see Jawn's hand macarena and squinting. And I LOL over Arson Wells.

Great Prevuisms and pictures today, thanks! :D

The thought of Chloe in leather and Phillip's prosthetic leg brings to mind one of the greatest movie titles of all time: Chrome And Hot Leather.

Sheesh, Sami and Lucas picked up right where they left off, didn't they? I'm so sick of their bickering - if they're not going to let them be happy, just get it over with already! I never used to care one way or the other, but now I'm leaning more towards Sami and EJ - at least their conversations change from time to time!

Doesn't it seem to anyone else that the conversations between Lucas and Sami without any input from EJ seem to be banal, stale, repetious, and downright mind-numbing!

You would think that after fourteen/sixteen years of in your face proof that Sami would realize that Lucas is incapable of trusting anyone except Mommie dearest(and even he only trusts her 996% of the time!), and that he will turn on anyone in a heartbeat just out of sheer paranoia!

The words that spring to my mind re Lucas and Sami's relationship are toxic, abusive, and mean-spirited with tiny flares of angry adolescent sex!

Can you imagine how the babies are reacting to the constant stress of being around people who are "bickering" non-stop?

No wonder those kids are screaming their heads off-- they are only reacting to the tension produced by the emotional toxicity of both Lucas and Sami! (Sher-ee-sah)
