Fine, Fine, Fine and Fine

Bo finds Carly at the Pier. He blows his short but volatile stack and tells her he said he would get Melanie to drop the charges. Carly says she's going to protect her daughter, "If I go to jail Vivian will leave her alone. You can't stop it."

"There is someone who can, and will," he predicts.

Hope comes in to visit Melanie. She wants to talk about Carly; not Melanie's favorite subject.

Caroline putzes around the bar at the pub. A guy comes in the door and Caroline looks up to see...

MAX!

Oh, the reunion!

Nicole scrubs the floor with a toothbrush. She tells McTavish this is abuse. McTavish tells her to get back to work.

EJ plays with Sydney while Sami paces. They bicker about whether or not things will work out. Sami says she doesn't want to talk about it. She walks over leans on the fireplace mantle and mumbles something about Rafe. EJ asks, "What did you say about Rafe?"

Sami hisses like an angry snake, "I wasn't talking to you!"

Rafe and Clark bust into the hideout, "FBI!" Just like Rafe's brain, the lights are on but nobody's home.

Anna boards her plane.

Sami says she thinks Rafe is close to finding the kidnapper. She tells EJ he has a lead, and thinks Rafe is really good at what he does.

Rafe and Clark scour the hideout, which is covered in cobwebs and looks like nobody has been there for years.

Anna frets, "Once this plane takes off Anna DiMera will be nothing but a fading memory. I wanna see my sweet pea already." She looks for Sydney's picture in her purse, "Oh no what if I left it at the cottage?"

Carly is shocked, "You asked her to do this?"

"She volunteered," says Bo, "Why wouldn't Hope want Melanie to tell the truth?"

"I guess you're right," says Carly, "I just expect the worst from people."

"Not everyone is like you," says Bo.

"I know Hope has a good heart," says Carly, "That's why you love her so much." And that's what I like about DOOL — the realism of a guy's mistress telling him how great his wife is and how much he loves her.

Caroline tells Max about Melanie's newmomification. Max says he's on his way to a medical conference and only has a few hours in town. Caroline tells him if that's the case, he ought to go see Melanie right away.

Hope says she's there as a friend not a cop. Melanie has a rare moment of perception, "You're not my friend."

"Let me revise that," says Hope, "I'm not here as an officer of the law."

Melanie has yet another rare moment of perception, "You're not much of an officer of the law, either." Hope insists Carly was defending Melanie when she nearly blew her to kingdom come. Melanie reminds her Carly is sleeping with Bo.

McTavish takes a picture of Nicole scrubbing the floor, "This will be my new wallpaper." Nicole makes threats. McTavish warns, "Watch it sweet pea!"

Nicole asks, "What did you call me?" She flashes back to the Sydnapping and hears the voice say 'sweet pea,' "Why can't I place that voice?"

Rafe calls Sami and asks her to meet him at the cottage, "It's west of Old Anderson Bridge, named after old Bob Anderson." He asks her to have EJ and Sydney come along. Sami hangs up and tells EJ.

Hope says they are talking about Melanie's situation, not Bo and Carly's callisthenics regimen. She tries to convince Melanie Carly wasn't trying to hurt her. Melanie doesn't buy it, "Maybe she shot me so she wouldn't be reminded about what an awful mother she is." Hope tries to break through the defensiveness, but Melanie don' wanna hear it.

Sami and company arrive at the dingy hideout. EJ thinks the place looks like it has been deserted for ages. He thinks Rafe isn't sure this is the place, "You don't have any evidence."

Anna panics and empties her purse. She's worried her fingerprints are on the picture, "Elvis, if I'm goin' down I'm takin' you with me."

Carly backpedals, "You and Hope have a history."

"What tipped you off about that," says Bo, "We've only been married for about a quarter of a century." He gets closer, "Can I talk now?" Suddenly, Bo decides face-sucking would be better than talking. He plants one on her and then comes up for air, "You're important to me. You're the woman I want and need. I have a history with Hope, but things change. People outgrow each other. What we have feels right."

"It feels right to me too."

"So," says Bo, "I want to be with you and don't want you to play the martyr. Vivian will be caught. She's sick, evil and creepy but human, so she'll be found out. if you go to prison you will abandon Melanie once again."

Hope walks in on the tender scene, "Oh, am I interrupting?"

"No," says Bo, "I'm done slobbering all over her for now." He asks about her conversation with Melanie.

Hope says it didn't go well. She turns to Carly, "She's determined to punish you."

Melanie reads a magazine and rants about Hope. She really gets mad and chucks the magazine across the room. That'll teach that crummy old magazine. She struggles out of bed and goes over to pick it up. As she does, the door opens and Melanie thinks it's Hope returning, "Look, if you're back here to bother me..."

MAX!

Melanie jumps up and wraps herself around him. Max says, "I hear you got shot. Are you OK?"

"I see you've learned a lot about bullet wounds in med school," says Melanie, "Of course I'm not OK."

Nicole ponders, "Who else used to say 'sweet pea?'" She looks down as storm trooper jackboots stand in front of her. She flashes to the garish boots at the kidnapping walking away from her. Then she looks up and sees Anna standing in front of her.

McTavish asks, "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"I thought you were someone else," says Nicole.

"Angeline Jolie?"

Nicole zones out, "That must've been it."

Rafe thinks EJ is agitated. "I'm just worried about Sydney," agitates EJ. He tells Sami Rafe brought them there to torment them. Rafe rants. EJ says he doesn't recognize anything there. Not a single cobweb. They start to leave, but Clark and Mr. Tucas walk in. Rafe asks Tucas if anything or anyone looks familiar.

Bo, Hope and Carly go over well-trodden ground.

Max helps Melanie back into bed. Melanie yammers, "How are you, London, Chelsea and everything?"

Max' answer is efficient but not informative, "Fine, fine, fine and fine." He asks about Phillip.

Melanie says, "I convinced him I wouldn't die if he left the hospital."

"That must be why I saw him sitting in the waiting room," says Max." Melanie asks if he heard about Daniel.

"Yeah," says Max, "Your father."

"A real showstopper, isn't it," asks Melanie, "You know, we were still both raised by Trent, so we're still brother and sister." Hugs.

Mr. Tucas says he never saw anyone coming or going to this cottage. Rafe gives him his card and Tucas gets his tucas outta there. EJ insists Rafe is grasping at straws. Rafe wonders if EJ is sure of that and they spiral into another silly argument. EJ insists the kidnappers wouldn't have left traces and they should all just be happy they have Sydney back.

Anna wonders why the plane isn't taking off. The pilot comes on and announces they are experiencing a mechanical problem. Anna sticks her head into the aisle, "Someone? Anyone? Can anyone tell me how long the delay will be? Can someone tell me please?"

Max tells Melanie he feels the same way, "Things will never change, because this is DOOL." He tells Melanie he thinks her life is on the right track. Of course, so was the last train wreck in Salem.

EJ offers to put Sydney in the car. Sami asks to ride with Rafe. A lead balloon crashes into the Ejami section of the audience as the Safe section has a PAH-TY. Rafe agrees and vows to find the kidnapper. They all leave.

McTavish tells Nicole to hurry up. She leaves. Nicole wonders, "Anna? That makes no sense. But this is DOOL, so whatever doesn't make any sense actually makes sense... if that makes any sense."

Max asks, "Can I weigh in on this?"

"No," says Melanie, "I know how your brain works. You're going to come down on Carly's side and she deserves to go to jail. If you want to cut her some slack you can just go." Aaawwwwwww... We all pout.

Bo gets a call and says he has to go to the station. He says he's going to talk to Gus and see if he can have him give them Vivian fair a better deal, "I'll offer him 150 years instead of a life sentence. That should do it." He leaves. Hope tells Carly Melanie might change her mind.

Carly thinks that's unlikely and thinks going to prison is best, "I'm going to plead guilty."

Rafe, Sami and Sydney get back to her place. Busy, one-track minded Rafe says, "I should get back to the office."

Sami whines, "You don't have a couple minutes? I thought we could hang out for a while. Look at Sydney smile. She misses you." Rafe takes Sydney babbles. Not surprisingly, Rafe understands what she says.

"We're a family," says Sami, "That's all that matters."

EJ is back in the rumpus room. Anna calls. She tells him the flight has been delayed. EJ has a conniption, "You need to get out of the country right now."

Anna gets sarcastic, "OK I'll just fly the plane myself. We have mechanical problems and are stuck."

"Bloody great."

Anna asks, "Did something happen?"

"No," says EJ, "This is DOOL. Nothing ever happens. But Rafe found the cottage."

Anna asks, "Did he find anything?"

"The cottage."

"What if he finds a clue?"

"It would be a miracle if he got a clue," says EJ.

"What if he finds something that incriminates us?"

EJ asks, "Are you that dense?"

"No," says Anna, "I'm not dense, you snarky creep."

"If he finds anything," says EJ, "you and I are history."

Max asks, "So you're going to let your mother go to prison?"

"She let her daughter be raised by a drunk."

Max says, "If you do this, you will be the person who suffers most."

Melanie asks, "You've been watching Dr. Phil again, haven't you?"

Carly tells Hope her going to prison would be best for Bo, "You're his wife and you have had a hard time, but you are so important to him. If I'm out of the picture I think you can find your way back to each other. Am I being presumptuous?"

"You're being noble," says Hope, "You can take your patronizing little offer and go straight to hell."

Sami and Rafe share a family moment with Sydney. Rafe tells Sydney, "There is one more thing I have to do, bring the person who took you to justice."

Back on the nearly-doomed plane, the pilot announces the mechanical problem has been fixed, "The ice machine in the galley has been repaired."

EJ hears the announcement and says it's wonderful news, "Bon voyage."

Anna says, "Give my sweet pea a kiss."

"I'll do that," says EJ. He hangs up and looks at Sydney's picture, "Looks like your daddy dodged another bullet. You're secret is safe with me."

Nicole wonders, "How could it have been Anna who took Sydney?" She remembers Anna saying 'sweet pea,' as she packed to leave the DiMera mansion, "OMG. It was Anna!"

And the Emmy for a show using the term 'sweet pea' so much in a single episode that no one ever wants to hear it again goes to...

Come on Bulldog. You’ve got to laugh at that one!!

She tells EJ he has a lead, and thinks Rafe is really good at what he does.

Yep Sami - Rafe is doing an outstanding job making you feel guilty.

And that's what I like about DOOL — the realism of a guy's mistress telling him how great his wife is and how much he loves her.

At least Carly didn’t say how glad she is that Sydney is home.

Caroline tells Max about Melanie's newmomification.

Newmomification – a truly excellent addition to the Prevuze lexicon.

Melanie reminds her Carly is sleeping with Bo.

Melanie is rude and obnoxious.

If you want to cut her some slack you can just go." Aaawwwwwww... We all pout.

Melanie is rude and obnoxious – part deux.

“Look at Sydney smile. She misses you."

Sydney has known Rafe for about 10 minutes. She doesn’t miss him.

"OMG. It was Anna!"

There was no reason for Agent Clark to flash her cleavage or for Rafe to inflict damage on a perfectly good door because it appears that Nicole is going to blow the whole Sydnapping debacle to kingdom come. While it’s wonderful that this silliness brought Anna back to Salem, you have to wonder why a supposedly smart guy like EJ would have chosen such a flakey person as an accomplice. It wouldn’t have killed him to be a little nicer to Anna either. EJ’s regenerated brain cells sure didn’t last long.

TGIF and TGFP!!!!!!!

Love that boundless faith.

Max says he's on his way to a medical conference
lol. hahaha. omg. lmao. ROTFL. LOL! I don't know how much more internet slang I can go through to convey my feelings about this.

Melanie reminds her Carly is sleeping with Bo.
What a classy young woman. I guess this Maggie's influence?

Melanie doesn't buy it, "Maybe she shot me so she wouldn't be reminded about what an awful mother she is."
Damn. If only Vivian caved in that empty skull.

Rafe thinks EJ is agitated.
Calling people on annoying trips into the boonies or something when they probably have other things to do. Egoism.

we were still both raised by Trent, so we're still brother and sister."
Not that I'm disagreeing with her, but I thought Max left that environment when he was pretty young.

"No," says Melanie, "I know how your brain works. You're going to come down on Carly's side and she deserves to go to jail.
Wow. Mel is pretty stupid.

"If he finds anything," says EJ, "you and I are history."
Excuse me while start beating that dead horse but if you can rape a woman and then spin it into... a minor quibble... then this is small beans.

"She let her daughter be raised by a drunk."
Does Melanie even know that Philip has a son? That he gave away pretty easily? And that he kidnapped another kid, threatening to keep her way from her, dimwitted but otherwise decent, parents.

And the Emmy for a show using the term 'sweet pea' so much in a single episode that no one ever wants to hear it again goes to...
Alas, Popeye will win.

At least Carly didn’t say how glad she is that Sydney is home.
But I sure am!

The Superhero Rafe who will bring down the Evil Ej (not Super, the guy was lied three times, he has motivations you like it or not) is LAME ! It is cheesy and predictable and when the bad guy is so much more charismatic than the good guy it is even more hard to root for the goodie goodie.
I guess it is the kind of bullshit the mainstream audience of soap opera want to see. What a smart audience, youhou !!

We keep hearing about what an awesomely awesome FBI Agent Rafe is, yet we see absolutely no evidence of this. EJ is the one who rescued Sydney from Nicole, and now Nicole has figured out who took Sydney from her. Meanwhile Rafe is kicking down doors to empty houses.

Melanie is beyond annoying.

Anon, that is a standard literary device that is used all over the place. From Treasure Island to Batman to Harry Potter. It's not like the soap world has cornered the market on it.

I feel so inadequate when people make really, really good points I hadn't even thought of.

Yes Klaus but Batman and even Harry Potter are rooting guys i can get behind because they are smart, have endearing flaws, are complex, have some presence..Thanks to that i am interested in the battle between them and equally complex bad guys characters (ex Batman versus The Joker : just awesome, captivating dynamic, moreover Batman is not really a good guy unlike Superman, a character that i can't stand by the way). In soap opera land the characterisation is poor, lame and really caricatural and it's even worse when one actor outshines totally the other, as a result/outcome we have a dynamic and a history who are not fun to watch.

"You're being noble," says Hope, "You can take your patronizing little offer and go straight to hell." "But I, on the other hand, can try to clear my husband's mistress and reunite her with her daughter because I'm so pure of thought and a saint to boot." Go ahead and just say it, Hope, since that's what you want everyone to believe.

Which leads me to my favorite Prevuism of the day: "the realism of a guy's mistress telling him how great his wife is and how much he loves her." HAHAHAHA

I'm not sure what the point of dragging EJami/Sydney to the cabin was (other than the obvious time-killing). If it was to see if Tucas had met EJ couldn't Rafe just show him EJ's picture?

Loved "I convinced him I wouldn't die if he left the hospital." "That must be why I saw him sitting in the waiting room," says Max. and Melanie has a rare moment of perception, "You're not much of an officer of the law, either."

Great comments from all today (yup, Leslie, I did get a laugh out of the dim bulb Rafester reference) and thanks, Prevuze, for the FINALLY FRIDAY recap. Happy weekend everyone.

I'm late to posting today, so my comment below had already been taken. But, what the heck, DOOL can beat a dead horse, why can't I?

And that's what I like about DOOL — the realism of a guy's mistress telling him how great his wife is and how much he loves her.

That’s got nothin’ on the realism of the guy’s wife trying to get the mistress’s daughter to tell the truth so the mistress won’t go to jail

My HUH?!, YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING!moment - Rafe wants EJ, Sami & Sydney to come to the cabin? How does he know it’s the hideaway? Even if it is what would Ejami know about it? And, IF it is the hideout wouldn’t you want to have your forensics team scour it for evidence before the crime scene was hopelessly contaminated by folks tramping through it? Even if they did find evidence that pointed to EJ/Sydney being at the cabin any good defense attorney could rip that to shreds since Rafe had the two of them on the premises.

"I'm done slobbering all over her for now."

SPIT TAKE!! Oops, didn’t warn my keyboard fast enough for it to get out of the way.

I'm sorry, Melanie, but Max isn't your sortof brother any more. He's now your uncle-by-adoption*.

TGIF and TGIP everyone!

*Although Max & Frankie aren't blood relations, they were adopted by the Bradys. Frankie is Carly's brother. Frankie would be Melanie's uncle. And Max, Frankie's brother-by-adoption, would be her uncle-by-adoption. [I had to chart that one out.]

Melanie might be a brat or annoying but she's usually right. I like to call it blunt and pointing out the hypocrasy of others.

As was pointed out previously, Rafe's an idiot. EJ found Sydney long before the Fumbling Bumbling Idiot did.

What does it matter if Phil gave up rights to a child that was made from his stolen DNA?

My spotty shorthand recollection of the baby fiasco.

Philip: Claire is MY daughter!
Shawn: No dude, she's mine.
Belle: (thank God)
Philip: I raised her! She might as well be my family!
Shawn: You have your own kid!
Philip: Yes! I do!

*after much searching*

Tyler: Here I am!
Philip: You will never be Clair! And so you do not deserve the many chances someone in my position could give you! Enjoy your mediocre life, child!

In a decade (Prevuze 2020!) or so we may have Tyler bitching that he was cheated his birthright or God forbid, that his adoptive parents pimped him out to clear their gambling debts.

Unlike Melanie (and his dad), Tyler will actually have a leg to stand on, as Philip was in a position that Carly wasn't.

Regarding the lovely young woman;
Melanie has a tendency of reaping the forgiveness and understanding of others and not sowing any herself.

This whole kidnapping storyline is Duh-mb. I'm so sick of it.

Daysisdum, as I remember it:

Philip/Belle were married. Shawn/Mimi were hitched.

Belle had a baby Phil thought was his, but turned out to be Shawn's from a night together neither Shawn nor Belle remembered.

Mimi wanted a baby, but couldn't have one. So they went with a surrogate using (supposedly) Shawn's swimmers. Only the Black Glove switched sperm samples (I forget why Philip's was in there to be switched.)

A number of other sperm switches, DNA testing report switches and other wacky hi-jinks later it all shook out that Claire was Shawn's. The surrogate's baby was Phil's. The surrogate wanted the baby for herself, but then changed her mind (forget why) and offered it to Philip. (Who had meanwhile divorced Mimi.)

Philip took about 30 seconds to think about it and said, "No thanks". I believe I remember some nice couple coming along and adopting the boy.

So much for Philip's vaunted love for "family".

Just gotta say I love Klaus....I generally agree with everything you say, and you have a much better way of posting it than I could. Thanks for reading my thoughts!

Now, about Dr. Max....hasn't he only been in med school for about a year and already he is at a medical conference? I always thought London moved a little slower than the rest of the world, but clearly not in it's acedemic programs!

So AppleCheeks, now that Max is Melanie's uncle, they can start dating when her marriage to Philip ends. (ewwwww but so were the others).

And Klaus, I loved your recap of the whole Shelle/Shimi/Phelle thing. It reminded me of those 30-second movie recaps that angryalien.com did with bunnies.
