Eleven Year Old Toast

Daniel is at the nurses' station talking on the phone and checking on the second set of test results.

Will stands outside the pub and prays, "Please don't do this to my mom or Grace." Caroline finds him. Will gives her the bad news, "It's Grace."

Phillip and Stephanie decide they need to get some sleep. They exchange I love you's. Phillip sleeps. Stephanie stares.

Stefano is on the phone saying he is aware that Owen is in police custody, "If he implicates my son in any way the you will regret it." EJ brings Sydney in. Stefano hangs up and says he thinks of Tony all the time.

EJ is a bit preoccupied, "Tony? Oh, you mean the guy you totally disowned right before he died."

Rafe and Sami are in the chapel. Rafe talks about how much Grace has affected everyone in her short life. Sami just wants one more miracle. Rafe just wants the drugs to work.

The nurse encourages Momma Mia to hold Grace and talk to her. She leaves. Mia asks, "Why did you tell the nurse I was Grace's mother?"

Nicole says, "Because Grace needs someone to hold and comfort her." Mia picks Grace up.

Sami tries to be optimistic. Daniel comes in and finds them. He tells them they need to be with Grace. Sami repeats her thought that Grace is getting better. Daniel gives the stare of death.

Mia tells Grace she has a little girl just like Grace. Nicole breaks down.

Lucas and Chloe are at the pub. Allie is with Max, learning to sweep floors and take out the trash. Lucas tells Chloe what he knows about Grace.

Stefano says there is something EJ should know about Sydney. He zones and flashes back to talking to Nicole. EJ snaps Stefano out of his funk and asks, "Father, what is it?" Stefano sighs.

Nicole tells Mia it's time to put Grace down and go. Mia holds on tight, "I can't."

Sami is upbeat. Rafe and Daniel bring her back to earth. Daniel tells her Grace's system can't take any more treatment. Sami refuses to accept it and stumbles out screaming that Grace will be OK.

Left alone in the chapel, Daniel turns to the altar and scolds God, "What are you doing? Give them a break."

Mia wonders where Sami is, "It's not like her to stay away from her kids like this."

"Right," says Nicole, "She usually tries to stay away from them longer." Once again, she attempts to get Mia to put Grace down. Once again, Mia holds on tight. "Mia," says Nicole, "put the baby down and back away slowly."

Will tells Caroline Dr. Jonas told him to gather everyone at the hospital. In this case, 'everyone' means Caroline and Roman. Budget cuts won't allow them to have half the town in there like they usually do. Will says he feels guilty because he didn't want his mom to adopt Grace. Caroline comforts him as they head for the hospital.

Stefano tells EJ to treasure every moment he has with Sydney and never to take things for granted. EJ knows Stefano had to get out of the hospital because everything there reminded him of Tony. It was OK to come back to the DiMera mansion though. Stefano kicked Tony out so many times there isn't much there to remind Stefano of Tony.

EJ gets pensive, "I keep thinking to myself..."

Prevuze

"I keep wondering," says EJ, "what would I do if that were my baby?" Stefano says he knows Sami is going through a lot.

Sami walks back into Grace's room. Nurse Cratchett tells her to get out, "Only the mother is allowed in here."

Somehow, Nicole has pried Grace away from Mia and they are back out in the hallway. Mia tells Nicole she doesn't know what came over her, then suddenly figures it all out, "OMG, I think I know why I did that!"

Chloe says, "I remember telling Nicole how it bothered me that you and Sami were so close, but Sami's love for her child is amazing." Lucas doesn't know if Sami can make it if Grace doesn't pull through.

Mia says giving up her own baby without holding her was awful, so she just didn't want to let go of Grace. She fall apart, "My little girl is out there somewhere..."

Stefano is on the phone barking orders to his flunky, "I don't like delays!" As EJ comes in, Stefano changes the subject and talks about his health. EJ is carrying a tray. Stefano hangs up as EJ puts the tray down in front of him. Stefano looks at it, resists the urge to hurl, and says, "Perhaps I should be punished for my sins but cottage cheese and eleven year old toast?"

"Right," says EJ, "Coincidentally, they started fixing the toast the last time there was an interesting plot on DOOL." EJ sees through Stefano's game. He knows he was calling to get an update on his "target." Stefano tells him he'll take care of business and EJ can take care of his family.

Daniel comes in and settles the argument over who is Grace's mother. Sami, Rafe and Grace have a family hug while the nurse looks at Daniel and shakes her head. They exchange that DOOL look of death.

Nicole continues to comfort Mia. Mia apologizes for saying some terrible things about Nicole. Nicole considers spilling the beans, but runs out crying instead.

Sami wants Dr. Daniel to pile on the antibiotics. Daniel tells her there is nothing more they can do, "We have done everything. You need to prepare yourself." Sami insists Grace is a fighter and neither of them will give up. She kicks Daniel out. Rafe tells her he'll be right back. He leaves. The baby babbles. So does Grace.

Outside, Rafe asks if Daniel was saying Grace won't make it. We get the hand on the shoulder thing. Rafe's lip quivers. "I am so sorry," says Daniel, "this is a particularly virulent strain. Rafe tells him he was going to adopt Grace. "You're her dad and I'm sure she knows it," says Daniel.

"I didn't even think I liked children," says Rafe, "except for Sami." Daniel tells Rafe that Sami needs to know Grace not making it is a possibility.

Will finds Mia wandering around the hospital. He apologizes for leaving her high and dry, but says he had to go summon the family. He doesn't think he will have the strength to say goodbye.

Nicole enters the chapel and gets on God's case. God's having a tough day. Nicole rambles on with her interpretation of a prayer, "So was that fun for you, hearing Mia say how nice I was and that I cared about Sami? I never thought anything like this would happen. I just wanted EJ to have his daughter and I know I didn't give a damn about Sami. But she loves that baby so much and it doesn't make any difference who the parents are. Please don't do this to her. I am sorry!" Nicole explodes into tears, "Punish me! Don't punish her! Please let Gracie live."

Lucas comes back and tells Chloe that Allie and Max are having a great time, "They're having ice cream."

"Allie is one of the best babysitters ever, isn't she," asks Chloe. She tells Lucas Nicole is at the hospital. Lucas nukes but Chloe settles him down.

Sami rocks Grace as Rafe comes back in. She tells Rafe she thinks Grace is doing better. Rafe bursts that balloon and tells her Dr. Jonas says they have to "be prepared."

Sami ain' preparin' for nothin' and she vows not to give up, "If you don't have any faith then get out!" Rafe leaves. So much for faith. Sami has a total breakdown.

Chloe calls Nicole and asks about Grace. Nicole gives her the rundown and hangs up. Chloe passes the bad news to Lucas. They head for the hospital.

Nicole sees Rafe brooding in the corner. The family arrives. That is, Roman and Caroline walk in. Rafe tells them things aren't good.

Lexie walks up to Daniel and offers to stay even though her shift is over. Daniel beats himself up because there is nothing he can do, "I feel helpless. It must be the same feeling you always get when you're around patients."

Roman comes into the room with Sami and Grace. Sami sobs. Roman comforts.

Stefano tells Elvis to stop worrying and heads upstairs. EJ calls Nicole.

Chloe comes in and finds Nicole, who tells her she thinks the doctors are out of options.

Daniel calls a colleague, but doesn't get many ideas for anything else to do.

Roman offers words of comfort and also offers to call Marlena. Sami says she has already talked to her and told her to stay with John, "And I need Rafe. I hope he understands I didn't really mean it when I told him to get out. Please tell him that."

Rafe stands in the doorway and overhears, "I already know that and I am (say it with him) here for you."

Roman leaves. Rafe provides support. Sami provides the tears, "She's not gonna make it, is she?" Rafe is silent.

Will and Mia talk.

Chloe suggests Nicole should go home, "There is nothing you can do."

Will comes in with Sami and Rafe. He sits down and Rafe asks, "You wanna hold her?" Will nods and Sami passes Grace over to him.

"It's me," says Will, "Your big brother."

Sami sobs, "She needs you, Will." She puts her head on Rafe's shoulder and cries. Fade to black.

Stephanie stares.

Super – no whining, crying, whimpering, slobbering, snot running down her nosing, etc.

Stefano says there is something EJ should know about Sydney. He zones and flashes back to talking to Nicole. EJ snaps Stefano out of his funk and asks, "Father, what is it?" Stefano sighs.

Is this what the writers call a tease? Note to writers – you’re not fooling anyone. It will be weeks or months or years before EJ finds out about the baby switch.

"Right," says EJ, "Coincidentally, they started fixing the toast the last time there was an interesting plot on DOOL."

Is Prevuze referring to the Princess Gina storyline? LOL!

Nicole considers spilling the beans, but runs out crying instead.

Oh joy - whining, crying, whimpering, slobbering, snot running down her nosing, etc.

Sami has a total breakdown.

Oh joy part deux - whining, crying, whimpering, slobbering, snot running down her nosing, etc.

OK now that I’m finished whining, crying, whimpering, slobbering, snot running down her nosing, etc., I must say that I think I’m going to need a stiff drink to get through this installment of Daze. In fact, this might even call for a six-pack. Kudos to Bulldog and Prevuze on the stellar photos. I laughed out loud at Phillip and the diaphragm.

TGIF and TGFP – Have a super weekend everyone and don't forget to buy tissues!

"Stefano hangs up and says he thinks of Tony all the time." Did he think of him the whole time he was banished to the island?

"Allie is with Max, learning to sweep floors and take out the trash." What time IS it by now and why isn't that poor child in bed?

"Everyone means Caroline and Roman. Budget cuts won't allow them to have half the town in there like they usually do." HAHAHHA Prevuze, you hit the nail on the head there.

And Marlena can't even come back for Sami during all of this either. But then neither can Eric, who's supposed to be so close to Sami.

And I LOL over the diaphragm, too. Prevuze, you got us thru another week and finally to Friday. Have a nice weekend everyone! :D

I enjoyed this one: "It must be the same feeling you always get when you're around patients."

Good job Prevuze.

Sami just wants one more miracle. Rafe just wants the drugs to work.

Hey, are there drugs? Can someone pass them out to the suffering folks here in the audience?

I knew it was coming. The s/l is just so conveeeenient. Nothing from this plot line so far has elicited much emotional response from me. But I gotta admit, I did tear up a little at the end of this recap.

I think that picture of Grace looking so pitiful was what got to be. Bad, bad Prevuze. lol

But, before all the whining, crying, whimpering, slobbering, snot running down her nosing, etc. stuff (as Leslie so eloquently puts it), Prevuze was great.

LOL at the picture, starting with Bulldog's priceless shot at Kate's lip injections.

One tiny HUH?! moment, She tells Lucas Nicole is at the hospital. Lucas nukes. Why would Lucas care? Hopefully it will make more sense in the context of the show.

TGIF, TGIP indeed! Looking forward to a weekend free of the fear of a no-Prevuze-Monday.

Errr...Applecheeks, I think you must have not been thinking when you typed this line:"Hopefully it will make more sense in the context of the show." This is Daze, the words "sense" should never be used.;)

Yep. I admit it. I did that on purpose. There are no coincidences in Prevuze.

How are all these people visiting a kid with menengitis? You have to be in paper robes and can't bring any foreign objects in to the room. Brutal. and they wouldn't be picking up the kid and moving them all over the place. The writers should do a little more research when thinking up concepts like this. Menengitis is extremely contagious, and most people aren't vaccinated against it unless they know someone who has had it.

I know it's DOOL so obviously they wouldn't do something that was sane.

Thanks for a great recap Prevuze!

Why are they killing off the adorable innocent baby instead of one of the babbling crying whining snivel snots on this stupid putrid show? Oh wait, maybe it's because Grace's intelligence far surpasses any one of the babbling blubber snivel snots on the show.... can't have that....

I agree about the menengitis comment. They should be a little more convincing on that. But, I think they're just going for the emotional tug without thinking of the practical side of the situation. My question is this.....
Why are Lucas and Chloe at the hospital? Grace isn't part of their family. True Sami and Lucas were married. But, they are divorced, He's remarried, I can see him being there as maybe a slight chance at emotional support. But, Sami has all of that she needs. Chloe needs to go back to the pub, rescue Allie from whoever is keeping her in the back feeding her pies and cookies and candy before she turns into another cookie munching Claire Kiriakis. If Chloe is around anyone elses dispair, she'll just turn it around so people will feel sorry for her. Why she's there when this is a Brady family thing, I have no idea.

I agree, why are they killing off this innocent baby. It would be SO much better if they would kill off Nicole. Then we wouldn't have to listen to any more of her sniveling and whining. Maybe they could use a taped version of her whining-like the fake infant cry they use for Sydney and Grace-now THAT is really annoying.....

And, yes-anyone visiting a child with meningitis that is just diagnosed has to be gowned/gloved and masked. But, come on, this is DAYS-there is no money for those props....But then, of course, you would have a pediatrician taking care of them-not the trauma surgeon/ER doc/cancer specialist like Dr McSleazy.....

True. They had a good pediatrician. But, they let Nicole run him off so that her " world wouldn't come crashing down." Is was so funny her reaction when Stefano started revealing that he knew all of everything.
If it was budget cuts all they had to do was borrow two or three sets of paper gowns and gloves from a hospital and reuse them over and over for each scene. Unless of course, the child REALLY is sick. But, I heard she came to the show with high salary requirements. I still say they could just send her to a specialist in Switzerland like they did John.
