T-O-A-S-T

Sami sits on her couch playing with her cell phone. A large laundry basket sits on the coffee table in front of her. Sami asks herself, "I wonder what those things are used for?" A knock at the door interrupts her deep thought. Sami jumps up and gasps, "Rafe?" She runs, opens the door and finds Caroline.

Caroline says, "You look like you just lost your best friend."

Sami whines, "I might have."

Rafe comes to see Sister Agnes asking for Sister Teresa. Sister Agnes says Sister Teresa isn't there, but asks him to stay. "Why are you nuns so busy," asks Rafe.

"Salem makes Sodom and Gomorrah look like a stroll through Disneyland," says Sister Agnes. Rafe tells her he's facing a major dilemma.

Sister Agnes asks, "Is it something to do with Samantha Brady?"

"It has everything to do with her," says Rafe, "I think we're through."

Nicole asks EJ if the wedding is on. EJ says they will have to see what tomorrow brings. Footsteps approach the door outside the sanctuary. Nicole and EJ keep arguing as we pan up to find Brady eavesdropping. "I need time to think," says EJ.

Five seconds later, Nicole says, "OK. I gave you extra time. What did you decide?" EJ has decided to leave. Nicole begs him not to walk out on her.

"It's my call," says EJ, "I'm calling the shots here."

Rafe thinks Sister Teresa gave Sami bad advice. Sister Agnes defends Sister Teresa. Rafe doesn't agree. Sister Agnes gets out her ruler and raps his knuckles.

Rafe says a father should know about his own child. Sister Agnes wonders if Rafe wants to be the person in Sami's heart instead of the baby's father. "I was thinking more about her bed than her heart," says Rafe.

Caroline wants to know who Sami was expecting. She says she was hoping it was Rafe, "I said some things in our argument I hope to take back." Sami brings up Bo, "I know it's none of my business but..." she makes it her business. She asks how Caroline kept the truth from Bo and OMB all those years.

"After he had a few beers you could convince OMB he was the Dali Lama. I didn't tell my son because I was foolish and selfish and wrong."

Brady listens as EJ and Nicole talk. Nicole says she thought she had control over EJ. "Nicole," he says, "Dispense with the sarcasm."

Nicole whines, "How about if you dispense with the cruelty?"

A gal in the audience yells, "How about if you both dispense with beating this dead horse and get on with it?"

EJ reminds her Tony has died. "I know," says Nicole, "Now we have to deal with an extra seat at the reception." EJ says they should talk later and leaves.

Nicole breaks down. Suddenly, she feels a hand on her shoulder. She gasps and turns, "Oh, EJ!" Nope. Brady.

Kate strolls around outside the pub. A guy stops her and they have a short conversation. Kate tells him, "If I ever get back in the business, I'll give you a call."

Irene is on her cell phone. She takes out a megaphone, points it toward Kate and thanks Maggie for fixing her up with Daniel. Kate listens. Irene gets off the phone and Kate jumps right into it. She asks Irene, "Were you talking about Dr. Daniel Jonas?"

Irene asks, "Do you know him?"

"Every square inch," says Kate, "There is something you should know about him."

Chloe tells Lucas this Vancouver job is important to her. Lucas asks her to say she won't go. Chloe is silent. Thank God for miracles.

Rafe thinks he and Sami may not be meant to be together. Sister Agnes says they seem to be meant for each other.

Rafe says, "She's in love with someone else – the baby's father."

Sister Agnes advises, "If you love Sami, give it time. She'll drive you nuts eventually." Rafe looks the word 'eventually' up in the dictionary to see if it means 'a long time ago.'

Caroline says if she had it to do over she would have been honest from the beginning, "Secrets and lies are nothing but hurtful."

"And," says Caroline, "the truth always comes out. You can either pick the time and place or live in fear and drive the viewers nuts."

Brady and Nicole debrief. Nicole beats herself up. Brady says, "No more self flagellation. Just tell me what happened."

Nicole tells him about EJ seeing Stephanie thank her and interpreting it as a betrayal, "Our relationship is over."

Brady steams, "He does not deserve you. He has done some despicable things but he doesn't deserve that kind of punishment." Nicole vows to become EJ's wife.

Kate says Irene should be wary of Dr. Jonas, "Daniel gets around... Think of him as the gift that keeps on giving. I am not a stranger to his bedside manner."

Lucas tries to get Chloe to take the talk show job. Daniel interrupts and congratulates her on Vancouver and says he hopes it all works out. Loserclueless invites him to sit down.

Rafe thinks EJ has Sami under a magic spell. Sister Agnes encourages him to talk to Sami.

Caroline leaves and wishes Sami good luck with her young man, "I hope things work out."

Sami whispers, "I hope so too."

Nicole continues to whine. Brady gets sarcastic. He advises, "If you really wanna give this marriage a shot, you can tell EJ the truth."

Nicole says, "EJ said he's going to give it a shot. Or maybe he said shoot it to hell. One of the two, anyway."

Daniel tells Lucas he can't stay because he has a date. BUT he gets a call instead and has to head for the hospital. Lucas sees Kate outside and goes out to see her.

Irene comes into the pub and finds Chloe. The old friends hug and cluck. Irene says she's there to meet someone on a semi-blind date. Chloe asks if it's with Dr. Jonas. Irene asks, "Oh, do you know him?"

Before Chloe can answer, we pan to the Daughters of the American Revolution, which is having it's monthly meeting at the pub. The gals all look over at Irene and say, "We do."

Rafe shows up at Sami's place, "Where are the kids."

"They're sleeping," says Sami, "They sure are a lot less trouble when you keep them drugged." Rafe says he hates the way they left things and apologizes. Sami hugs.

Mia stands at the Java Café counter. She reads the newspaper, turns and bumps into EJ.

Nicole says the truth isn't an option, "Stefano hates me. That's grounds for wearing a bullet proof vest." Brady vows to protect her. Nicole says she wouldn't ask him to take on that burden.

"It wouldn't be a burden," says Brady , "It would be an honor."

"Kind of like guarding the tomb of the Unknown Soldier," asks Nicole.

"Exactly," says Brady.

"But he's dead."

Nicole declines his offer, "Our time is past." Brady says that's not what it means. This is just about helping her. Nicole still rejects his advice, "I need to find a way to remind EJ why he fell in love with me."

"Then get naked with him in an elevator," says Brady.

Nicole rants, "Damn that Sami Brady!"

Sami tells Rafe she's been conflicted about telling EJ. Rafe thinks he has been pushy. He says he's always believed the truth is the way to go but has been giving her the opposite advice, "At one point you loved the guy enough to have a baby with him. It's not my place to tell you what to do. It's your decision."

Brady says if Nicole won't give EJ his space she should be prepared to lose him. He suggests she give him time to clear his head. Nicole figures a millisecond isn't that long to wait. Brady tells her to go home and chill out. She thanks him for his advice and hugs him, "I don't know how to repay you." Nicole leaves. Brady stares.

Lucas meets Kate outside the pub, "Are you spying on us."

"Of course not," she claims.

Lucas is skeptical, MMMOOOMMM..." Kate insists she wasn't spying. Lucas apologizes for accusing. Kate promises she will give him his space. Lucas tells her about the Vancouver gig. Kate blows her stack and vetoes that one.

Chloe tells Irene, "Dr. Jonas is a great guy."

Irene is cautious, "I heard a rumor he gets around."

The DAR gang yells in unison, "He gets more than that."

Chloe asks, "Who told you that?"

"Some woman," says Irene, "She said he's... a dog... that he'll sleep with anyone."

Chloe woofs, "What's wrong with that?"

Rafe reminds Sami, "EJ is rich and powerful and you love him."

Sami snorts, "I don't even know how to respond to that."

Rafe says, "You know what you have to do. Get EJ back and blow Nicole out of the water at the same time."

Nicole arrives at home and calls for EJ. No EJ. She contemplates the booze, "Don't be an idiot! Stay focused!" She stays focused all right – on the booze, "Well, one drink wouldn't hurt." She pours and slugs it down, "Maybe a little sleep wouldn't hurt either." She lies down on the couch and dreams about the wedding.

Father Mac asks, "Elvis Aaron DiMera, do you take Nicole Walker as your lawfully wedded wife?"

"No," booms EJ, "I'm taking Samantha as my wife. She has candor and honesty, which Nicole lacks."

Nicole protests, "We have a child tougher."

Dr. Baker stands up, "The hell you do!"

Sami stands, "EJ and I have more than one child together. We have two." She introduces Grace, "This is the latest addition to our beautiful family."

EJ asks, "That's my child?"

Dr. Baker chimes in, "There was a switch at the clinic. Grace would be hers..."

Mia steps in, "That child is mine, Nicole."

Sami has a cow, "Well then who the hell has my baby?"

Nicole runs over and grabs Sydney. Sami runs up and yells for Nicole to give Sydney to her. Nicole screams, "She's my baby! Get away from me!"

Nicole wakes, "I can't let it happen. I won't."

Kate comes to a full boil, "Is she out of her mind? Your bride is working for Hearth and Home now."

Sheepish Lucas says, "We were thinking..."

Kate roars, "That was your first mistake."

Lucas tries again, "We thought you could tape her segments. I realize the schedule could be very fatiguing on her, but I want to help her make her dreams come true. This could work." Lucas goes back inside.

Kate's wheels turn, "Fatigue may weaken her immune system. Maybe Vancouver isn't such a bad idea."

Brady lights a candle, "For you, Mom. I think if you were here you would know what I should do about Nicole."

EJ apologizes and leaves. Mia looks at the paper again and sees the announcement about EJ and Nicole's wedding, "OMG! Nicole's fiancée... my baby's father."

Nicole pounds down more liquor, "Damn Shami driving me to drink. Shesh nothin' but a bottled blonde... If he ever found out you have a kid together... no... no way Shami. You are toast. T-O-A-S-T!"

Sami protests and says she is not in love with EJ. Rafe decides to stop interfering, "I'm not going to be your crutch." He gets up to leave.

"You are not walking out on me," screams Sami.

Daniel meets Irene at the pub. He excuses himself and says he had an emergency at the hospital. Irene has decided to leave, "This isn't a good idea. We work together. It's not cool."

"If It's not cool, it must be DOOL," says Daniel.

"Sorry," says Irene, "No hard feelings." She leaves leaves.

Daniel walks over to the DAR meeting, "Which one of you ladies is the lucky one?"

Lucas suggests they go celebrate Chloe's Canadian debut.

Irene comes out of the pub and walks by Kate. Kate stares at Irene and then at Lucas and Chloe inside, "One bird down. One songbird to go."

Brady prays, "Maybe you can't help me make Nicole see EJ isn't the guy for her... that there is someone else."

Sami stops Rafe from leaving, but they strategically leave the door open. Nicole comes up and listens to the argument, walks in and takes a look at Rafe, "OMG. That's him. I know that guy!"

AND DOWN THE STRETCH THEY COME! It's EJ by a nose with Rafe challenging on the inside. They come to the wire and I believe we're going to have a photo finish. Meanwhile, ladies and gentlemen, it seems Lucas has broken down and had a heart attack on the backstretch...
