Shoes And Screws

Nicole strolls through the woods and ponders. She remembers hearing Stefano and EJ's conversation, "I can't believe I didn't see it. EJ is evil. Pure evil. And it's time for him to pay for his sins."

Daniel rings the bell at the Kiriakis mansion. Victor answers. Daniel holds a box and grins. "This can't be trick or treat," says Victor, "Halloween is months away."

Carly calls Chloe and asks how she's feeling. "Peachy," says Chloe, "Or I will be if you keep your mouth shut. Just let Daniel and me be happy."

Melanie and Phillip are at the hospital. Melanie drug him there so she could pick something up. She runs off to get it. Phillip stares at his phone, "Chloe why don't you call me back?" Stephanie walks up behind him and scares the bejabbers out of him. Phillip's phone goes flying.

Nathan and Caroline are together in the pub. Nathan is helping her with the paperwork she has to fill out because Caroline has decided to volunteer at the hospital. Maggie walks up to them and Nathan makes the big announcement about Caroline becoming a volunteer. Caroline turns to Maggie, "Someone has to pick up your slack." She also shows Maggie her copy of the book, 'How To Win Friends And Influence People.'

Nicole calls EJ, "What the hell is the matter with you" I knew you were a disgusting, heartless creep but you have outdone yourself"

Carly wants to finish the conversation in person, so Chloe invites her over for tea and insults.

Carly gets off the phone and finds Kate there. Kate asks what's up.

Nicole rants at EJ, "You've been putting the screws to me, and I'm putting you on notice. The shoe's on the other foot!"

"Shoes and screws," repeats EJ, "I'm tired of your mixed metaphors."

He hangs up but Nicole calls back, "Don't hang up unless you want your entire life to go up in smoke."

Carly tells Kate Vivian is a sicko. Kate says she has no sympathy for Chloe after the nightmare Chloe put her son's through, "When it comes to Chloe Daniel is an idiot. He deserved better. Me for example."

Phillip texts. Stephanie snoops. Phillip starts to go, "If you're looking for a fight look elsewhere." Stephanie stops him, "I know you and I know you're hiding something." Phillip sighs.

"If you know me that well," says Phillip, "you'll know I'm about to tell you to stay away."

Nicole says she wants to meet with EJ. He agrees and they decide to meet at...

Stephanie thinks that sounded like a threat. Melanie joins them and asks if there is a problem. No problem, just threats. Stephanie says she's there to meet Nathan for his day off. Melanie says she and Phillip have a day off too. Stephanie leaves. Phillip tells Melanie Stephanie is jealous because he loves her more than he ever loved Stephanie. That calls for sloppy kisses in public.

Maggie takes offense at the 'slack' remark. Caroline backpedals. Maggie asks for a moment alone. Nathan, afraid of getting caught up in the crossfire, leaves. Maggie unloads. She says she thinks Caroline is being hostile, "What are you so angry about?"

Caroline tires to back away from the argument, but Maggie presses. "All right, fine," screams Caroline, "You ignored my advice about Victor. You can't stay away from him. What is going on between the two of you? What are you doing with that man?" Do any people in Salem mind their own business?

Daniel says he's there to find something. He doesn't want Victor's advice when it comes to Chloe. He says, "When my parents died and I lost Rebecca, you were (say it with him) there for me. You got me through it. And now after a few false starts, I'm finally starting to make a life with Chloe. I want you to give her a chance."

Victor gives a noncommittal answer, "From your mouth to God's ear."
Daniel leaves with his box. On the way out, Ciara asks if there are wallets inside it.

Carly says she thinks Kate is being unfair and disrespectful to Daniel. Kate says Chloe is dangerous. She advises Carly not to get involved with Chloe's life. They part.

Daniel arrives back at his apartment. Chloe comes out and Daniel tells her he went through his parent's stuff. He opens the mystery box and shows her a christening gown.

"It's too small for me," says Chloe, "But I think we can have it re-sized."

Daniel says, "I was hoping we could have our child christened in this."

Chloe asks, "Isn't it a little disrespectful to christen a kid in a box? I can't wait for the baby, but I'm just afraid it's not going to happen. Tell me it will be OK."

Nathan and Stephanie are at the beach. Nathan fixes the mimosas. Stephanie asks about Caroline. Nathan doesn't want to talk about Caroline right now. He kisses her as Melanie and Phillip giggle up. Stares.

Daniel says he understands Chloe's fears. Chloe is still worried. Daniel assures her the baby will be fine. He wonders if he has spooked her with the gown. Chloe insists not and hugs him. They express their undying love and move in on each other. Alas, Daniel says he has to go. He turns and opens the door...

CARLY!

EJ meets Nicole at the pier, "Whats' so urgent?"

"I've been up all night trying to decide what to do with something," says Nicole, "It's a bomb." EJ tells her where he'd like to see her put it before it explodes. "If you use a bomb against a DiMera," says Nicole, "it could blow back up in your face. I'm still scared but to hell with it."

"Good," snorts EJ, "You just do it." He starts to go. She stops him. EJ asks, "What's gotten into you?"

"I am in the drivers' seat now," says Nicole, "I hold all the cards from now on. And the metaphors."

Maggie is indignant. Caroline is skeptical. She says Maggie can't trust Victor. Maggie claims they are just friends and their meeting there at the pub is business. Caroline doesn't buy it. Maggie says, "Even if it were a rendezvous I don't see how it concerns you."

"It's my pub."

"It's my rendezvous," says Maggie, "Besides, He's married. How could something be going on?"

"The whole town knows the marriage is a sham," says Caroline.

Maggie is exasperated, "Why are you angry with me?"

Victor walks up, "It's me She's angry with."

Daniel whispers his thanks to Carly for coming to see Chloe, and leaves. Chloe asks what Daniel said. Carly tells her, "He thanked me for coming. He thinks I'm here to smooth things over with you."

Chloe asks, "You're really here to destroy me, aren't you?"

Carly asks, "How can you destroy a train wreck? "

Phillip and Melanie debate whether to go or stay, and decide to stay.

Nicole and EJ argue. Nicole says EJ has pushed her to this point, "I did what I had to do to protect myself and now look where we are."

"Right," says EJ, "Let's look — You faked a pregnancy, then kidnapped my daughter and lied and got eight seconds in prison. You are a dangerous sociopath."

"You have outdone me," says Nicole, "when it comes to being a sociopath, dangerous, cruel, sick."

Phillip and Melanie do a 180° and decide to go do something else. They head off. "Just what I like," says Stephanie.

Nathan brushes it off, "It's a small town. With an international airport." Nathan asks if something happened at the hospital.

Stephanie says Phillip can be arrogant. She turns her attention to Nathan, "And I am with the least arrogant person on earth. Also the sweetest, sexiest, smartest guy with the worst choice in women." Nathan says all that talk turns him on. If that's true the sewage operation at the Salem cesspool would really turn him on.

Carly claims she has never wanted to destroy Chloe, "I'm in no position to throw stones, especially when it comes to popping a kid after a sleazy one-night-stand. I'm an expert."

Chloe turns up the heat on the inwhinerator, "If you keep your mouth shut he won't know." Carly says she found out it was Vivian's hatred that got this all started. "Everything that's happened is Vivian's fault," says Chloe.

Carly says, "Oh, I guess I forgot... she's the one who slept with Phillip."

Carly sees the christening dress and asks what it is. "It's a feather duster," says Chloe, "What does it look like?"

"It's clear now," says Carly, "Everything is clear now."

Maggie says she wants to do this another time. She leaves.

Victor turns to Caroline and growls, "What did you say to her? You stay out of my affairs."

Caroline asks, "Are you threatening me? Bring it on!" She body-slams Victor to the mat and as he tries to get up, she whacks him in the head with a folding chair.

Nicole says she knows EJ never had any evidence on her. He reminds her she actually did kidnap Sydney. She reminds him she did it for love. He reminds her she tricked him into marrying him and love had nothing to do with it. Nicole agrees, "That's true. It was misguided and wrong."

EJ mocks her, "Misguided and wrong? Oh, please, don't go overboard."

"It was wrong," says Nicole, "because you weren't the effort. Now I hate you more than you hate me."

"You hate me more than I hate you," says EJ, "What is this, high school? Why should I care how you feel about me?"

"After what you have done," says Nicole, "you'd better care how I feel. You have lost EVERYTHING!"

Victor says it wasn't a threat. Caroline accuses him of cheating with Maggie, "Women to you are liars or whores or some of them you put on a pedestal and idealize. Like Isabella."

"Like you," says Victor, "Stay out of my life." He walks out. Caroline scowls and stares.

Kate finds Dr. Daniel at the hospital. She asks if Daniel still holds her responsible for Chloe's poisoning and coma. Daniel wonders if they should get into it there. Kate decides not, but decides to stay, "It's tragic and sad how you are deluding yourself and don't see Chloe for what she is."

Carly says she just wants Daniel to be happy. She figures he'll be happiest raising his child with the one he loves. Chloe gives whining her very last measure, "So you're not going to tell? OMG, Carly. Thank you so much!" Hugs.

Melanie and Phillip get back to Maggie's place. Phillip suggests the gym and then lunch. "That sounds good," says Melanie, "except for the gym part."

She leaves to get ready. Phillip remembers he left his card in her gym bag and gets into it, where he finds the 'big sister' t-shirt. He looks at it and wonders.

Nicole says this whole business of EJ having something on her paralyzed her with worry, "So... I broke into the mansion last night and heard you talking to Stefano. Let's see... You talked about Sydney..." The blood drains from EJ's face.

Daniel says, "Anyone with half a mind knows you did it." Which, of course, is why no one in Salem knows Kate did it. Kate apologizes for upsetting him and says Chloe must be doing something right if Vivian is going after her.

"How do you know that," asks Daniel.

"Carly told me," says Kate, "Gotta go." She leaves.

Chloe hugs Carly and says Carly has made her happy. Carly tells her she can only stay silent if the kid is Daniel's. So much for happy-happy Chloe.

Melanie comes back into the kitchen and Phillip asks what the shirt is. Melanie tells him, "Chloe's pregnant. They're going to have a baby." Phillip hyperventilates.

EJ stammers. Nicole rants, "It is over, you sick bastard. Anna stole Sydney because you paid her to." She gives him a little cheek chuck.
