A Blood Oath

Vivian is at the hospital rambling about how depressing the décor is. Daniel comes up and grabs her. He wants to know why she's bothering Chloe. "Chloe didn't tell you," asks Vivian, "Or Carly? Poor Daniel what are your girlfriends keeping from you?"

Carly is still in Chloe's apartment engaging in a battle of wits with an unarmed person. Carly says she will only stay silent if the baby is Daniel's. Chloe assures her it's his. Carly says she can tell by Chloe's look of desperation the baby is not Daniel's and wonders if she already knows that for sure. Chloe doesn't know anything for sure.

Melanie thinks Phillip should be happy at this news about Chloe's pregnancy. Stunned Phillip stares.

Sami searches the beach for the laughing penguin, which careless and irresponsible Johnny left there after the picnic. Half dressed Rafe comes up. Sami stares. Rafe stares. Safes attempt to stare without losing consciousness. In fact, it appears there might be a few Ejamis taking a peek, too.

Nicole wants to know if EJ has something to say about the fact she knows he kidnapped Sydney. He doesn't.

Chloe admits she isn't sure whose baby it is. Carly suggests a paternity test. "You're planning on exposing me no matter what, aren't you," whines Chloe.

Phillip says he is just a little shocked at the big revelation. Melanie asks, "Why do you look so worried?"

Phillip decides he is a little worried because Chloe was infertile, so he doesn't know if it's true. Melanie says Carly did the sonogram, "There really is a baby in there." I think she's talking about Chloe's mind. Phillip asks how far along Chloe is.

"Why would that matter?"

The Lord God AlCarly says if the baby is Daniel's she will let things go, "If he finds out the truth any other way you and Melanie and I will all lose him."

Daniel tells Vivian to shut up and listen. He says he wants her to stay away from Chloe and tells her to get lost. Vivian thinks he's being rude and says everything he thinks he knows is conjecture. Daniel repeats his threats, "If you don't stay away from Chloe, there will be hell to pay." He walks off

Vivian stares, "I don't think so."

Rafe says he was just there for a swim. Sami says she was there yesterday for a picnic and tells him about unreliable Johnny losing his laughing penguin. Rafe asks if the picnic was with EJ. Sami wonders how he knew that and Rafe says Gabi told him that. He turns and finds the penguin behind a log, "Is this what you're looking for?" Stares.

EJ says, "No one will believe your ridiculous fable." They huff back and forth about who did what when. And why.

Nicole sneers, "Now you will pay."

Daniel calls Chloe, leaves a message and says he needs to see her ASAP.

Chloe sees Daniel has just called. Carly tells her to go and says she hopes the other man won't be a complication. Chloe says it was just a one-time thing and she'll never see the guy again. With that, this meeting of the Salem chapter of the Sluts Of The One-Night-Stand is closed.

Phillip says he is concerned about Chloe's health, given her history. Melanie decides it would be too early to say anything in case there is a miscarriage. She gets a call and tells Phillip she has to go cover for someone at the hospital. Phillip says he might visit Chloe for support. Melanie worries Daniel might be mad at her for spilling the beans. They decide there will never be any secrets between them, and part. Phillip stares.

Nicole insists EJ will pay just like he made her pay at her hearing. EJ thinks Nicole should have been put away for life, "You don't have any proof."

"Yeah," says Nicole, "I forgot about that."

"Good luck," snorts EJ. He starts to leave.

"Wait," says Nicole, "I lied. I didn't forget about proof." She pulls out the recorder, "I have it right here."

Rafe hands Sami the penguin. Sami says Johnny still loves it and the kids haven't forgotten Rafe. She starts to cry as Rafe sings Thanks For The Memories.

EJ says he doesn't believe Nicole has anything incriminating. Nicole plays the recording. EJ stares.

Carly finds Daniel at the hospital. He tells her about confronting Vivian and asks if Chloe knows about it. She says she saw Vivian there when she checked on Chloe last night. Daniel wonders why she kept that from him, "Why do I feel like I am out of the loop?"

"You're not even on the same planet as the loop," says Carly.

Melanie is back on the phone and finds out she really doesn't have to go to the hospital. Vivian shows up. Melanie wonders why she is there. Vivian gives her a fakey grin, "You are my daughter-in-law and I just decided to stop by."

Phillip shows up at Chloe's place, "Why didn't you tell me I am about to be a father?"

Melanie unloads on Vivian, "I am not your daughter-in-law, and you don't just stop by places. You always have a reason for what you do. You tried to kill me. Being alone with you is not an option." Vivian says her marriage isn't' turning out to be the dream she thought it would be. Melanie couldn't care less. Vivian tells her a certain someone — pan to Maggie's picture — is getting in the way. She says she would like to bring Melanie and Phillip back to the mansion. "I can't think of anything more nauseating," says Melanie. Look in the mirror.

Chloe asks, "How do you know that I am pregnant?"

"Daniel told Melanie," says Phillip, "And it's also on a billboard right outside town."

Chloe blows her tiny little stack, "Why doesn't everyone keep their mouth shut? But you're right... this baby could be Daniel's or yours." Phillip sighs. Chloe asks what is wrong.

Phillip says, It's just that when Belle and I were trying to have a baby... never mind."

Chloe blows up again, "There is no crying in baseball and there is no 'never mind' on DOOL. Why are you bringing up Belle?"

"It doesn't matter," says Phillip, "The point is, you're pregnant. It could be my baby and we have to figure out what the hell to do."

Yeah, well," says Chloe, "The real problem is it's not in our hands. It's in Carly's."

Daniel and Carly are at the pub. Carly says Vivian told her she and Chloe were just having a conversation. She also says she went back to see Chloe today and they came to an understanding.

Sami wipes the tears. Rafe says it doesn't matter why they aren't together, "That's the reality and it won't change." Gabi comes up. She says she came to help look for the penguin, "I think we should have the cops put out an APB and set up a dragnet."

Sami tells her Rafe already saved the day, "He may not be able to bring back kidnapped babies, but he sure has a nose for laughing penguins."

"I wish everything were that easy," says Rafe.

Nicole asks if EJ got all that and starts to play it again. EJ grabs the recorder from her and...

STOMP! CRUSH!

Melanie insists Phillip wouldn't want to live with Vivian and Victor, "You are certifiably insane. I hate you with a vengeance. Is that clear enough for you?"

Vivian says Carly ruins the lives of people she loves, "First Lawrence, then Bo and now my poor naïve Melanie. She will blow a hole in your world without any regret and you will wish she had better aim the first time."

Carly says, "Chloe now accepts the fact I am on her side. And yours too." Daniel says he thinks that's great. The fact she and Chloe are getting along means a lot to him, but wonders why Carly is so upset.

Chloe whines, "Now I can't marry Daniel until my scars... uh... I mean, until I am sure this baby is his. Carly says she will only keep quiet if this baby is Daniel's."

Phillip considers the possibilities, "What if it isn't?"

"That pretty much would narrow the field," says Chloe, "Let's not go there now."

Phillip says if the kid is his he'll do the right thing, "I won't run away like I did with Pocket. And I'll sure as hell find a better name for it. I will (say it with him) be there for you and we will get through this together. Because neither of us will have anyone else."

Sami leaves. The Gabster says she feels terrible for walking in on something. Rafe says she didn't, but Gabi doesn't buy it, "There is more. Last night she said she misses you."

"I know she does," says Rafe, "I miss her to."

"But?"

Rafe drones, "It's not enough."

EJ finishes crushing the recorder into a pile of dust. "I'm not an idiot," says Nicole, "I have a copy. A lot of them... to send to authorities just in case you or your father decide to do something to me."

FREEZE IT! OK, so apparently she hasn't sent them. At this point I think if I were EJ, the sharks in the Salem River would be having a heapin' helpin' of Chum à la Nicole.

"I set up this meeting," she says, "because I wanted to see you caught up in your lies in person."

EJ whispers, "What is your price?"

"That's the beauty of this whole thing," says Nicole, "There is no price."

EJ says in his experience there is always a price. Nicole says she is not a slave to the almighty dollar, "I just wanted to see your look of shock. This life as you know it is over."

Daniel says Carly reminded him of something he needs to do. He thanks her for being a friend. He gets up and turns to leave, "And for having my back."

Carly stares, "What am I doing? If Daniel finds out..."

Melanie comes up, "Carly, Are you OK?"

"No, I'm not."

Phillip blows up, "You haven't exactly done a good job of keeping this a secret. Carly... Nathan..."

Chloe explodes, "What do you want, a blood oath?"

"I want you to keep your mouth shut," says Phillip, "If it turns out that we conceived a child... I don't know if I can go on lying to Melanie's face."

"Are you saying you would tell Melanie the truth?"

"That's what I'm thinking," says Phillip. Thinking isn't Phillip's strong suit.

Carly says she's worried about something with a patient might turn out badly. Melanie presses, "Are you sure you're OK?"

"Yeah," says Carly, "And I feel lucky to have people in my life I care about. I would hate to lose that."

Chloe says Phillip can't tell. She says his life with Melanie would be over if he told. Phillip agrees, "We'll do it your way."

Chloe picks up a megaphone and points it toward the door as Daniel comes in. "Yes," she booms, "This has to stay between the two of us. We don't have a choice." Daniel stares. Chloe stares. Phillip stares.

Nicole may have taken things a bit too far, "You stay away from me. People can see. We're in a public place."

EJ works his jaw, "Who cares?" Slowly he turns... Step by step... NIAGARA FALLS...

Sami walks up.

Nicole breathes a sigh of relief, "Sami, just the person I want to see."
