I'll Save You The Trouble Of Butting In

Lucas gets a cup of coffee. He takes a drink, "Yuck!" There is a knock at the door. Eugenia. He's glad she brought coffee. His is terrible. She also brought breakfast and the newspaper. The headline blares, "Jack Devereaux Killed in Crash."

Becky takes a file into Carrie's office. Carrie asks for the quarterly report, which is in her desk drawer. Becky opens the drawer, sees a picture and says, "Who's the hunk, and how come you never mentioned him before?"

The hunk pours coffee as Sami comes in with the paper. "Jack was my friend," says Sami, "I knew he was sick, but I can't believe... poor Abby. She is Will's age. I never got to say goodbye to him."

Austin gives her some time alone. Sami sniffles. So much for Jack. As soon as Austin is gone, Sami forgets about him and rummages through Austin's Filofax, "I can't believe he's still in love with her."

Austin comes back out and says, "Do you wanna tell me what you are doing?"

Mimi wakes Shawn and gives him coffee. Mimi is going to the chapel to say a prayer. Shawn decides to go with her.

Phillip dozes. Belle stares, "OMG! Phillip! Wake up!"

Kate is on the phone filling Victor in. A nurse rushes toward Claire's room. Kate hangs up and asks the nurse what is happening.

"She's turning blue," yells Belle.

"What does that mean," asks Phillip. It means you might want to step out of the way and let them get the ventilator hooked up.

Belle lectures Lexie, "You have called a half dozen specialists and still don't know what is going on. What if the ventilator doesn't work?"

Mimi and Shawn go into the chapel.

Lexie tells Phillip and Belle they are doing as much as they can. She suggests they go get some breakfast, but Belle refuses to leave. Phillip goes to get coffee.

Outside, Phillip bumps into Kate and tells her what is going on. Phillip breaks down, "I feel so helpless."

Kate advises, "You just have to trust Lexie"

"What if that's not enough," asks Phillip.

"It will be," says Dr. Kate, "Look at what you have overcome to become a family. Nothing will destroy that."

Lucas is on the phone with Julie talking about Jack's accident. He sends his condolences to Jennifer. He hangs up. Lucas is broken up. Eugenia suggests taking the day off. Lucas says they have some things to iron out first. Eugenia asks how the visit to Highstyle went.

"I don't think that company is a smart investment," says Lucas.

"What changed your mind," asks Eugenia.

Carrie tells Becky she has been meaning to put the picture in storage. Becky wants the scoop. "We fell in love, got married, got divorced and I moved on," says Carrie.

"But you're still in love with him aren't you," asks Becky.

"I just broke up with Mike," says Carrie, "He's part of my past. Highstyle is my future. I have no time for a relationship."

"There's always time for a relationship," says Becky, "Pick up the phone and call him." Becky leaves. Carrie calls.

Sami says she was just straightening up. Austin says he will clean his own desk. Sami hopes Nicole finds a new apartment.

Austin observes, "Something else is going on."

Sami insists, "I'm fine."

"No," says Austin, "I know you. Something is going on. I want you to tell me right now."

Eugenia says she worked her butt of researching Highstyle and wants to know what is going on. Lucas flashes back to the meeting, "Let's just say after meeting the new CEO I didn't think the company was right for a breakup. We are going to concentrate on Countess Wilhelmina and the Clear Visage line. If my brother wants to steal Highstyle, he's in for a surprise when he sits down with the new CEO."

Sami says she's just preoccupied with all the work they have to do. Austin thinks it is something more. He leaves. Sami picks up the Filofax and rambles, "Austin, I can't believe she cheated on you and wrecked your marriage. You deserve so much better than that. I cannot believe you are still in love with her."

Eugenia walks in, "Aw, Sami, you just don't give up do you. I guess since you can't have Lucas you decided on his older brother. If I were you I'd stop before you make a fool out of yourself."

Mimi lights a candle. She prays for Belle and Phillip. "Everything will be all right," sayeth the Lord, "For if Claire died it would kill Belle and we sure don't want her up here."

Mimi sits by Shawn. "You were afraid you couldn't do anything to help but you just did," says Shawn, "God hears all our prayers. You just have to have faith he will answer them."

Kate goes into Claire's room. Belle hugs her, "I am so scared."

Lexie comes in, "We need to perform another spinal tap. Perhaps it would be better if you left."

Belle has a conniption, "I'm not going anywhere and you're not doing anything else to my child!" Lobotomy. Stat!

Sami tries to get rid of Eugenia. Eugenia tells her, "I already heard what you said. Austin loves somebody else. So are you going groveling back to Lucas? It didn't take you long to get rid of him. The supposed love of your life." Sami shuts the door.

Austin comes out and asks, "Who is that?"

"You lost Lucas and you're going to lose Austin," yells Eugenia.

Austin goes over to his desk and sees the open Filofax, "Now you know.

"Austin," cries Sami, "How could you still be in love with her?"

Carrie calls Lucas. He tells her about Jack. Carrie is shocked. Lucas asks, "At least we get to have dinner tonight, right?"

Wrong, "Lucas unfortunately I have to cancel." Silence.

Mimi starts to leave, but Shawn stops her, "There is something I want to say. I've been really happy when I am with you. I hope you feel the same way."

Mimi does her best Mortimer Snerd imitation, "Guffaw."

Shawn goes on, "You've been there all my life and I've never noticed."

"Story of my life," giggles Mimi.

Belle won't let them touch Claire. "You keep doing these tests," she yells, "But you don't know anything!"

Phillip asks Belle what choice they have. Lexie says there won't be much discomfort and suggests Belle and Phillip leave the room. After they leave Kate tells Lexie she wants to know what Claire's chances really are. Lexie stares.

"Kate," says Lexie, "I can't answer that. I don't know what we are dealing with. I promise we will do everything we can. Please wait outside."

Outside, Kate stares and sighs.

Mimi and Shawn notice the blinds are closed to Claire's room.

"Her oxygen stats aren't coming up," says the nurse, "Are you OK, Lexie?"

Carrie tells Lucas she shouldn't have let him talk her into going to dinner in the first place, "We will do it another time, I promise."

Lucas hangs up. He gets another call. It's Kate. "What do you want, Kate? I'm in a hurry."

"So now it's Kate?"

"No mother would do what you did to me," says Lucas. He tells her about Jack.

Kate says she already heard about Jack, "Before you go to Jack's could you come to the hospital. Phillip really needs you." She fills him in on Claire's situation.

"How come no one told me," asks Lucas.

"I knew you didn't want to hear from me," says Kate, "But now I think they could use your support."

Lucas promises, "OK. I'll stop by. My dinner date canceled."

That got Kate's attention, "Your dinner date?"

"I'll save you the trouble of butting in," says Lucas, "It's someone you know and you would approve." Lucas hangs up and gets out a scrapbook. He looks at a picture of Carrie and himself, "No, you are nothing like Sami."

Kate says to herself, "Well Lucas, you may hate me, but at least you are moving on. Now if Austin would do the same."

Austin says, "I can't believe you... No. I guess I do believe you went through my things."

Sami explains how she found the picture, "You've been making a fool of me all this time."

Austin insists, "I have been up front with you all this time."

"No," says Sami, "you have been cryptic all this time!"

"No," argues Austin, "I was clear. This is just business."

Sami says, "You could have said, 'I'm not in love with you and I'm not in love with Nicole. I'm gonna get this business off the ground and then sweep Carrie off her feet.'"

Austin reminds her, "Carrie is with Mike."

"But you are in love with her," says Sami, "I have to ask you this. Were you in love with her when you were engaged to me? I deserve to know the truth." Austin stares.

Lucas arrives at the hospital. He asks how things are. Kate tells him there is no change. Lucas asks, "So all we do is wait, right?"

"Sorry your date was canceled," says Kate.

Lucas says, "Real smooth, Mom. I'm not going to tell you who she is."

"So you like her," asks Kate.

"I wouldn't mind being reacquainted with her."

Kate says, "Go after her."

"You know, Mom," says Lucas, "you're right."

"Aha," says Kate, "So it's 'Mom' again."

Lucas goes to make a call. Belle and Phillip come up. Lexie comes out. She hopes they have answers soon. Shawn goes into Claire's room with Belle. Belle wails, "What are we gonna do if I lose my baby?" Hug. Phillip and Kate come in.

Kate suggests, "I think you're wife needs you." She turns to Mimi, "If you don't do something to make Shawn yours he will gravitate towards Belle."

Phillip takes over with Belle. Mimi goes to Shawn.

"When I was with you all I thought about was you," says Austin, "But when I broke up with you I wondered if I could work things out with Carrie. But she is with Mike now. I have to finish getting ready." He heads off but turns back and grabs his Filofax, gives Sami a look, then leaves.

"Out of sight out of mind," says Sami, "Dear sister, I swear I will never let you come between me and the man I want ever again."

Lucas calls Carrie. He tells her about Claire. "I should be there," says Carrie, "I haven't even seen a picture of my niece."

Lucas suggests, "I could bring you one if you'd have dinner with me. Work through lunch and you'll be really hungry for dinner."

Carrie agrees, "But with the price of fuel aren't you running up a huge bill on the jet."

Becky is listening outside. Her eyes go wide and she mouths, "HE OWNS A JET?"

"Victor won't mind at all," says Lucas. Translation: Victor will have a fit that makes Belle look like an amateur.

Carrie hangs up. Becky runs in, "I love it! He didn't take no for an answer. I knew if you called him things would work out."

Carrie asks, "Who are you talking about?"

Becky holds up the picture and points, "Him!"

Carrie says, "That's... Austin. I was talking to his brother Lucas." FF on Carrie with Austin and Lucas in the background.
