Cold and Dead

Mimi sobs, “It’s all my fault. Rex, the doctor told me I won’t be able to conceive. I can’t have your children.” Rex hugs Mimi. Bonnie runs in. Hysteria abounds. The doctor is going to send in a nurse to give Mimi medicine to calm her down. A wise decision. Mimi keeps repeating, “It’s all my fault. I’m being punished. If I hadn’t been so selfish this wouldn’t be happening.” Rex wants to know what she is talking about.

Bart tells Tony they still can’t find Jack Devereaux. Tony says they will find him but, “We have to prepare for the arrival of our new guest.”

Jennifer says she is the one who has to raise Abby. Patrick says it means a lot to him to be able to support her. Jennifer knows she has Bo for a male role model for Jack Jr. Family is everything to Bo. She has Lucas too. She just wishes something good would happen for him. He and Sami had a second chance, but it didn’t work out. She needs a nanny. Patrick says he could be a ‘manny.’ Jennifer says she can’t count on him forever. He’s a drifter. It would be hard for him to stay in one place. She asks, “How long do you plan on staying in Salem?”

Patrick asks, “How long do you want me here?”

Jack comes ashore from his little swim cold and wet, “I’m home. I’m on US soil. I’m coming home to you and the baby, Jennifer.” He sees a pay phone and picks it up. He listens to the cruel operator tell him he needs a quarter. He yells, “What do you mean I need a quarter to make a collect call? Why do you think it’s a collect call?” He decides to walk. The sign says Salem 100 miles, “No problem.”

Abby thinks maybe her mom could be after Patrick, “It makes no sense.” Chelsea reminds Abby her father is dead so it does make sense for Jennifer to be looking for a man, "But Jennifer is going after MY Patrick. I’m not going to let it happen."

Jan tells herself she’s a genius as she watches Belle and Shawn argue. Shawn thinks Jan sent the email to Phillip. Belle is still upset that Shawn wrote the email. Shawn asks if there is some other reason she doesn’t want to tell Phillip. Belle says, “I’ll tell him when he comes home.”

Shawn asks, “Why bother putting our relationship on hold when it seems like it’s already over?”

The troops are wondering what happened to Phillip. They pick up his distress signal.

Phillip lies in the dust. The creep shoots him. He pulls the distress signal off of Phillip and crushes it under his heel.

The troops immediately lose the signal, “I’m afraid Kiriakis is gone.” Pan in on Phillip lying unconscious.

Chelsea saw the way Patrick looked at her when she fell into his arms. He wants her. Abby thinks Chelsea is dillusional. Chelsea swears Patrick will be her first lover. She wants a real man. How about Sami? Abby tells Chelsea the baby’s real name is Patrick. Chelsea thinks Jennifer is using the baby to make sure Patrick stays.

Jennifer tells Patrick he is welcome to stay as long as he wants. Patrick says, “I have no intention of repeating my past mistakes. I want to settle down. You don’t’ have to worry about a father figure for your kids. Someday you will meet and fall in love with another man. Any woman as beautiful and loving and kind as you are couldn’t be single for very long.”

Jennifer doesn’t know what she wants right now. Jennifer says Jack was adopted, raised as a senator’s son in a dysfunctional family. She loves him with all her heart and will never have that again, “Patrick, if you had been in love like that you would understand what I mean.”

“Well, I have,” says Patrick.

Jack tries hitchhiking. Smitty picks him up in his ole pickup truck.

Rex wants to know what’s up. The doc asks him to leave. He and Bonnie go. Bonnie looks in through the blinds. Bonnie prays, “I know how much you wanted children. Please, God, help my daughter survive this. Let her get through it and have children. If you have to blame someone, blame me. Amen.”

The doc tells Bonnie Mimi is having a hard time. She needs to rest. Bonnie watches through the window.

Jan thinks to herself, “Thank you, Shawn, for finally telling Belle how you really feel.”

Belle says they have to wait to tell Phillip. It will be hard to tell Phillip, but she will. She thinks Shawn doesn’t trust her to do it. She doesn’t know if she can trust him right now. Belle says she is sure Jan sent the email if she was here. Shawn wishes Jan wasn’t in his life.

Belle says, “See, you don’t want to hurt Jan, so imagine how much harder it is for me, not wanting to hurt Phillip who is so kind and loving. Now he will get that email message and call for sure.”

The phone rings right on cue. Belle picks up. It’s Rex. He tells Belle Mimi is out of surgery, but the news isn’t good. He wants Belle to come over. Belle tells Shawn they have to get over to the hospital.

Jan picks up her things, “If Phillip calls, Belle won’t be here to break up with him. Thank you Meems.”

The troops are determined to save PFC Kiriakis.

The creeps decide to dispose of Phillip’s body.

Jennifer asks if Patrick was so much in love why he let her go. Patrick says he never had her, she never knew he loved her; she was in love with another man. I guess the writers went on vacation and they just hauled out the old Phillip/Belle scripts and gave them to Jennifer and Patrick.

She asks if there have been other women. “A few,” he says. Jennifer drops the envelopes she has been holding. They both stoop down to pick them up and stare face to face.

Jack has been asleep in the pickup. He asks where they are. Smitty tells him are coming into Salem. Jack is home. Smitty will drop him off here. He thanks Smitty, “I will always remember you as the one who brought me home”

Abby drops a coin. They ignore it. “It’s only change,” says Chelsea. She has more important things to worry about. Chelsea wants Abby to help her get Patrick into her bed. Yeah, Patrick could spend some time in Abby’s bed then spend a lot more time in jail. I’m sure he’d be up for that. Abby says she will think about it. They go off to talk strategy.

Jack finds the coin Abby dropped. Now all he needs is a phone booth to go with the quarter. Conveniently, He finds a phone right there and dials.

Bonnie strokes Mimi’s brow and tells her everything will work out, “I think you need to start thinking more positive. You could find a surrogate or adopt.”

Mimi wishes she had thought more about adoption when she was pregnant.

Bonnie tells her there are so many abandoned kids who need a home and the Mickster could help her cut through red tape. If the Mickster helps, she’d better not plan on a large family.

Rex tells Shawn and Belle Mimi can’t have children. Belle goes in to see Mimi. Shawn says he’s sorry.

Belle and Mimi hug as the tender music swells.

Jan comes in and tells Rex she came as soon as she heard. “What the hell are you doing here,” asks Shawn

The troops are going in for Kiriakis.

Tony thinks it’s time to begin Phase II. Bart wants to know what’s going on. Tony tells him, “Once all the pieces fall into place, all will be revealed, MWAHAHAHAHA."

Patrick and Jennifer hold the face-to-face pose, and then get up. He’s going for a run. He leaves, but she sees his keys on the table. She takes the keys and runs after him as the phone rings. Jack leaves a message. He’s on his way home and he’s alive, in that order.

The girls run into Patrick, “Isn’t it a bit cold to be jogging in that tank top?” Patrick says it feels good.

“Looks good,” drools Chelsea.

Patrick reminds Abby she is the one who changed the grades on her report card. She has no reason to be angry with her mom. He runs off. “We have work to do,” says Chelsea.

Jack is finally home. He looks in the window and sees Jennifer kissing his picture. He psyches himself up and goes in.

Jan sneers, “Not that I owe you an explanation, Shawn, but I came here to see my old friend Mimi.” Rex reminds Jan Mimi hates her.

“She could have prevented this,” says Jan.

Bonnie leaves Belle and Mimi. “Rex told me everything,” says Belle.

“It’s true,” says Mimi, “Rex doesn’t even know the truth. The reason I have PID is I had a complication from the abortion.”

The doc tells Mimi she can go home if she is stable.

Rex is sick of Jan’s implications. Belle pulls Jan aside.

Mimi tells Bonnie she can go home. Bonnie says, “Everything will be all right, baby.”

She asks Bonnie not to call her baby. Bonnie says she shouldn’t ever think about what happened again. Mimi asks, “How can I not? I can’t lose Rex.”

"You won’t," says Rex as he enters Mimi's hospital room.

Belle asks, “How could you keep threatening to tell Rex about the abortion? How could you do that to Mimi?”

“Well,” says Jan, “How about you shacking up with Shawn when Phillip is at war?”

The troops scour the area for Phillip. They find his broken transmitter. "Phil, where are you buddy," asks Jake.

The creep covers Phillip’s body with a sheet. Cold and dead.

Abby tells Chelsea, “Maybe I should apologize.” Patrick is tying his shoe in the background.

“YES, YOU SHOULD APOLOGIZE TO YOUR MOM,” shouts Chelsea so Patrick can hear, “Tonight is the night I’m going to make it happen.”

Belle says she is going to tell Phillip the truth. “What if he comes home in a flag-draped coffin,” asks Jan.

Belle imagines the funeral. Phillip wakes up in the coffin, “How could you betray me like this?”

Jan asks, “Phillip would crawl through the belly of hell for you. How can you cheat on him?”

“We’re not cheating,” says Belle as she walks away. Shawn tries to comfort her. “Stay away from me,” snaps Belle.

Bonnie says she will see Mimi tomorrow. She leaves. Mimi will never be able to give Rex children. “That’s OK,” says Rex, “I’m here for you. It’s not like you caused this to happen.”

The troops can’t find Phillip, “He’s either missing, a prisoner or DEAD.

Phillip coughs and pulls the sheet off. “Belle,” he says, as her vision comes up to him. She tells him he’s going to be OK but he has to stay focused and sharp. Phillip’s captor stands at the door, and then walks away. Who comes up? None other than Tony DiMera himself, “It’s going to get much worse, Phillip.”

“I love you Jack,” says Jennifer, “and I don’t want to spend all the Days of My Life alone.” She sees his reflection in the glass, “It can’t be true.” She faints in his arms. He kisses her. FF on Jack and Jennifer with the blue skies of Heaven in the background.
