The good news: IT'S FRIDAY!
The good news: The Prevuze team is on the road, but we've got Internet, electricity (and heat).
The good news: I got the DOOL feed today and, through the magic of the Internet, transmitted it to my remote location.
The bad news: The picture looks like a Jackson Pollock painting exploded and turned into a video montage with no sound.

I attribute this to the fact that the satellite dish back at the Prevuze Compound is probably buried in snow. Our neighbors back there (the guys at the prison) report that we now have about a combined 15" on the ground from all the recent snow goodness we've had.
I am scheduled to arrive back at the Compound Sunday, when I will likely spend most of the day digging myself IN to the property so I can then dig myself OUT of the property and get to the dish so I can dig it out of the snowbank.
I hope you followed all that because I know I didn't.
Anyway, that means we should be back on track by Monday. The forecast? Scattered snow showers and temperatures so low... let's put it this way: Frosty The Snowman has an increased life expectancy. Oh, well.
I heard from a reader yesterday who has no snow in her area and wants some. If she owns a fleet of dump trucks do I ever have a deal for her.

So, since there isn't much to comment on in the way of DOOL today, I'll offer my congratulations to Alabama. I didn't have strong loyalties either way, so I was hoping for a better game which, IMHO, never materialized although Texas managed to make it close for a while. Frankly, I think that painful shovel pass incident made the difference even though the final margin was greater than the touchdown which ensued.
Or maybe it's just that with all the snow, that word "shovel" has a very negative connotation with me right now.
Again, not professing loyalties either way, but my big chuckle of the evening was when the camera panned through the Alabama section of the crowd and I saw a guy holding up a sign that said, "We mess with Texas."

I didn't watch the game last night because I was shoveling snow. We didn't get 15" but there sure seems to be a lot of that white stuff piling up. When I get home tonight, it will be round three so I feel your pain Prevuze. Have a safe trip home.

I saw that sign and giggled too! I was half-heartedly hoping Texas would win because I am not a fan of the SEC, but I also wanted 'bama to win because I saw them as the underdog. I just wish McCoy could have stayed in - but the freshman didn't do too bad.
I live near enough I could almost hear the fireworks from last night's game, so no snow here!

The freshman quarterback for Texas did and excellent job. I would not have wanted to be in his shoes.That being said,I cannot apologize for my loyality to University of Alabama. I watched,waited, cried and jumped for joy,lost my voice. Its the best,SEC is the best except for a few teams. Alabama fans as a rule are not good losers,or winners. Since there isn't much else to comment on, I thought I'd do a little research on the phrase to "talk through one's hat". Yesterday Klaus mentioned he'd never heard the phrase before. I've heard it quite a bit, but wondered where it came from.
I searched through Google and the answer is.....no one really knows for sure. The following, from the Word Detective, combines most of the various theories I ran across. This post is long, but since you have nothing else to read in Prevuze....;-)
"To "talk through one's hat" means to talk nonsense, to pontificate on a subject one knows nothing about, and to make ludicrous assertions with unshakable confidence. The character Cliff in the old "Cheers" TV series, with his bottomless reservoir of absurd explanations for everything, was a sterling example of someone who habitually "talks through his hat."
"To talk through one's hat" was apparently a widespread idiom by the late 1880s meaning "to talk nonsense," although it initially seems to have carried the added connotation of "to lie." The precise logic and origins of the phrase are unclear. One theory, perhaps reflecting the earlier "to lie" meaning, maintains that the phrase refers to men in church who hold their hats over their faces while feigning prayer. Another possibility is that the phrase refers, as you say, to the emptiness of the hat atop one's head, as if one were thinking and speaking with an empty head. It's also possible that "talk through one's hat" is an oblique reference to another phrase, "to talk off the top of one's head," meaning to speak speculatively, without thorough consideration."
A commenter to the above theory added:
"I think we ought to give serious consideration to the Joseph Smith/Mormon origin of this phrase. the more I research the "translation" of the Book of Mormon by Joseph Smith "reading" a stone that nobody can see with his face buried in his hat, and the resulting nonsensical narrative blather ... seems to fit."

man, no prevuze! I have no idea what it must be like to even see 15" of snow. I live in ALA, and though I War Eagle most days, even I will say Roll Tide! We received 1/2" of snow and schools have shut down for two days and the whole dang town has pretty much come to a screeching halt. Oh well! Looking forward to Monday when I hope PRevuze has had a chance to dig and get a nice hot cup of joe, which will fare you better than a bowl o chowdah!

I'm in very sunny San Diego, so for all of you in sun-challenged places, you have my sympathies. Sorry guys, but snow cannot compete with an early January walk on the beach. Though they do say it won't top 70 along the coast today - I'd have to drive a bit inland for that.
We're up to 3 feet of snow in Cleveland (with another 8 - 12 inches tonight), so if anyone wants any, please don't hesitate to cntact me! Great job with this site...I have all but given up on watching this show with all the cast changes and B-rated teenage actors. Bring back the vets! This is the only way I keep up on the show anymore and know when an episode is worthy of my time.

I don't want to do too much refereeing here, but I believe the part you are referring to is a quote from an article explaining the idiom, not the opinion of the author herself.
If I had thought she was attempting to be disparaging, I would have removed the post (Go back to comments a few days ago and you'll see a lot of removed comments where I did think the author stepped out of line).
The purpose of Prevuze is to have fun and we'll leave the serious disagreements to other places.

I agree with bgirl on this one! I live in tn and it's the same way here too I would love to see at least a foot of snow every once in a while but like she said 1/2'' of snow will shut down everything. But anyways prevuze have a safe trip back to the compound and well see y'all on mon!

I am a bit confused because the show that was on today was the one that was scripted here yesterday. My friend that is on the show was expecting a different episode today so do not understand.

As far as a snow update goes... I just got back from my trek through the frozen tundra to our satellite dish and spent about a half hour digging it out of the snow (or, I should say ice). I sure hope that worked to clear up our reception problem so we can get a feed tomorrow.
